The transport workers in Paris - metro, bus, and train - have already held one day-long strike to protest a bill that would reduce their special retirement benefits, and since that didn't have an effect yet they're striking completely now; from today until next Monday they're not running any transports (besides two metro lines that run along the ( Read more... )

I've always wondered, how does one get around when the public transport is all on strike? Walking? Taxis? Can you get any taxis?

well paris has recently implemented a city-wide public bike rental program, so that's pretty popular, but unfortunately you need to have a french bank card andi'm too lazy to go to the trouble. a lot of people have bikes of their own already, a decent number have cars, and a lot of people are walking. but yeah, you better believe the taxi drivers are profiting.
