Wow. That was beautiful. The characterizations are sharp - I could see this fitting into canon (I think I'll add it to my head-canon.)

There are a lot of catching lines for such a short piece:

"I would sooner stop breathing," Isumi said before he realized he'd done so.

"I went to China. Shindou skipped games. You went to university. That's all. And just like Shindou and I are playing again, you will too."

Isumi headed for the counter, not looking back.

I loved those lines, too. I especially like how he tied in everyone having their own sort of mental breaks and his outside perspective to Hikaru losing Sai.

Isumi doesn't know why Shindou stopped playing, though I think that after Touya, one of the next people Shindou might confide in could possibly be Isumi. So he just chalked it up to everyone having their own thing, and he wasn't far off, was he? ^_^

That was beautiful and wonderful and just: even though the show was about Shindou and Touya and their journey, I've always feel bad for the other players who haven't made pro yet and who're trying their hardest. And stories like these make me melt, a little.

Oh, me too. *snuggles you* It was all good that Shindou and Touya got what they wanted, but I kept seeing the faces of all those who didn't make it--Tsubaki-san, Iijima, Nase, Fuku, and all those other people who just ... you know. Good, but not good enough. And you want everything to work out for them, because they've been working so hard. I'm so glad you liked this. ♥

I missed seeing the go club group after Hikaru went insei. It was something he had to do, but I have head-canon of him visiting their high school go club and playing teaching games with them for free. <3
