My new favorite thing to say when asked a direct question is "I don't know. It's a mystery." Thank you, Geoffrey Rush, for being awesome and properly flithy amid actors too afraid to be properly filthy in "Shakespeare in Love."

And "The Knight's Tale" is long and boring and not terribly romantic, despite what the Lady Dr. Hendrix says.

Thank you. You've managed to articulate exactly what it is about that trope that is bothersome--in very few exceptions is, say, Bella or Princess Peach allowed to choose NOT to choose. Staying single and far, far away from possessive partners isn't even painted as something desireable. And that is truly a shame ( ... )

There's a difference between glorified rape (which is all being forced to choose a mate really boils down to) and what the fetishists like to refer to as "consensual rape", which is what happens when both parties are willing to go about with whatnot and one consents (usually in writing, as it is always how I've seen it done) to pretend they don't consent. Either way, it involves paperwork or discomfort, and neither of those things are romantic ( ... )
