1 month iPhone review.

3g. Or rather, lack thereof. EDGE is blowing chunks.

Wifi is not necessarily a good replacement for 3g either, as I've stated in various fashions on one of my MR posts, and I quote:

Are you saying widespread 802.16 deployment is that imminent?
Or that it's cheap and easy to deploy wifi mesh networks?

I have a 3 phone now that I'm in England, best network ever (I can hop networks if I have no coverage lawl)

Anyway. If you ever find out from anyone where this free wifi is, please let me know! I'm wondering the same :D

Also, Sony Ericsson is releasing an 8gb touch-screen esque phone soon, it's supposed to be not only cheaper than the iPhone but is 3G. I know Bain will be getting one when it's released, it won't be the same, but I'll let you know how it is if you're interested.

sigh, i know. i want in on free wifi.

I'm stuck with my iPhone for the time being, and otherwise it's not a shabby phone.

I just hate edge :(

i cant walk down the street in sf without being attacked by wi fi networks as i go through them, its almost a non issue here if you arent moving

Mesh networks are cool and can be free. Though not really free as in beer. I haven't seen a successful mesh network yet. I have, however, found enough open AP's here in The Netherlands and in Barcelona. Granted, in the smaller villages it's a bigger challenge but in cities it takes me 5 minutes to stumble upon an open network.

I'm stil looking for an affordable directional antenna/adapter for my powerbook, though. Hopefully ebay's urwifiguy will be kind enough to respond.
