Vienna is terribly slow, but OSS, around for a while and has all my LJ friends in it.

I used to use Vienna a long time ago. It's certainly okay...like, I'd definitely prefer it over the likes of Newsfire even when NewsFire is free. But I didn't think it was that "powerful" enough, e.g. the main reason why I love nnw so much is for the syncing because it's so convenient.

OSS is nice but when there's an app that does it better that's not open source, I don't see why that should matter soooo much :D Unless I had something to add, which raises the question of "why reinvent the wheel" most of the time.

You could probably export your LJ friends to another app if you cared to (opml and the likes). I only have one feed for LJ friends..which I think is a paid/permanent feature only. It's a lot simpler :X

OSS because it can be trusted a bit more and has no shady licence agreements.

I was too stupid to get an RSS style for my Friends Page that also worked as a viewable html page, back when I had a paid account.
OPML is how I added LJ to Vienna, but then I had to readd everything because friends-only posts would not show up. It's the Friends Only that gives me headaches.

I don't know about trust and licensing. It can go both ways.

Authed feeds should work fine. That's why I can't use google reader even if I wanted to.
