Henry Gates, Jr. had a PBS special last week, Faces of America. He and his father both had their entire genome sequenced. I can't help but wonder who paid for that. PBS, Harvard, Gates himself? It was interesting. The company who did his genome sequencing presented the results to him on an engraved jump drive, very fancy. I suppose if you paid $50,000 for the data, the least they can do is give you a gold-coated jump drive.

Maybe they were part of the same group that had their genomes sequenced for free in exchange for making the results public.

I'm sure you're right. He did mention that his dad was the oldest person to ever have his genome sequenced, and that his genome would be studied for years to come.
