Bad song choices for a Wedding reception

I know I'm in the minority as I actually listen to song lyrics (really, Mom? You think Tennessee Waltz is a sweet song??), but I did find some of the songs played during a recent wedding reception I attended as a bit inappropriate.

Here are a couple that I remember being played:

I agree. You've known him for less than 25 years. How do you know it's gonna last?

Oops. Accidentally posted anonymously, so don't know if it got dropped or not. . .

At a wedding in Israel, the band was playing "I wanna get physical." I always wondered if they knew what the words actually meant.

Seems like every wedding reception in the past several years has played "YMCA". I always laugh at that as a choice.

You're absolutely right. There's something to be said for creativity - like my sister using "Happy Days are Here Again" for a recessional for her second wedding. But, I think some songs are sung purely for the music, not the message.

I'm about to sing "The Lord's Prayer" and "You Raise Me Up" (to begin a wedding). But, I've also sung "You Raise Me Up" for a funeral. I'm not sure when I'm singing the second song if I'm being flexible or singing it ironically:)

I really admire the folks who can discern the lyrics and understand them. I have to have everything explained to me. Curtis listens and understands everything, so it's particularly painful for him to deal with my ignorance. And he feels the emotions in those songs. I once made him cry when he had to explain the lyrics of “The Green Green Grass of Home.”

Friends of ours used the Talking Heads' "Road to Nowhere" as their recessional, and Kate and I turned to each other and went "really???"

They divorced about three years later.
