New computing toy - Lenovo X200

Oct 30, 2009 01:24

The 5 year old IBM Thinkpad T43 that I have been using at work was showing its age: overheating, poor response on disk operations (saving a small file in vi seems to be taking increasingly long times), it doesn't boot sometimes and I have to power cycle it. However, I was putting up with it because the newer T series laptops from Lenovo don't come ( Read more... )

I own a x200s ns488ge.
I used to have a samsung x20 xvm II before. That was a 15.1" with 1400x1050 resolution. The x200s has a 12.1" screen with a resolution of 1440x900. I am fine with that. But there fits no umts antenna in the led display lid.

I had a choice between T400 and X200. The resolution on the X200s sounds nice, I would've like that.

what OS did it come with? how much did it cost (only relevant if you bought it in India)

The laptop has a Windows Vista sticker but the IT chaps at work installed XP. The whole package (laptop, dock, 2 chargers, external DVD burner) cost about 1800 USD (This is a corporate laptop bought in India but I have no idea why they tell the price only in USD).

Actually it is a good price even if it is converted to INR directly but I suspect there is some direct-import / STPI / no-import-duty going on in here. I don't know much about these things.

Thanks for the post. Useful 'user experience' notes in the post. It's time for me to upgrade my laptop as well....

Five years is very good. Much respect for not over-consuming like the regular geek types. ;)

If not for the LCD (which was accidental) I would've used it some more. This geek barely consumes hardware.

It might not be as shhexy as X200, but I have a brand new T400 from work now. And a brand new job too. :) Now what sucks is, only the standard issue Windows XP corporate image is allowed in this machine. Or so I'm told.

I escaped the T400 after the T43 quite narrowly. T400 CPU will have Intel VT so you should run a VM.

btw, I spoke to mullah and he tells me interesting things have been happening in your life. Besides, I have a new GPG key, so we should meet :)
