War. Devastation. When you arrive, you find yourself in an abandoned city. You can smell the death, the decaying bodies, gun powder, fire. There's dried blood and remains scattered throughout the city. Buildings aren't cared for. Plants grow on them, through broken windows and overtaking few. Paint is coming off of others, debris lie throughout the streets, alleys, and even inside these buildings.
But then you come to the river. On the other side, the buildings are in perfect condition. Cared for. The streets, as far as you can see, are taken care of. Clean. You go over, trying to figure out what's going on. But when you try to do so, you're shunned. People flee, looking for cover. Pulling children off of the streets and closing their shutters. Classic the-bad-guy-is-here behavior. Someone yells at you, calls you something you can't decipher.
This is the Other Side. You are the Abnormal.

We are a small, plot heavy game set in an interdimensional rebellion against a colonialist empire that's threatening your dimension. This is a multifaceted conflict, with a lot of room for moral ambiguity and intrigue. We have a focus on taking on the antagonists in a variety of ways that allow all characters to make a difference to the plot, from the completely mundane to the superhuman.

The only substantial evidence left to piece together our story was what humanity had made: fictionAfter years of development and disaster, these aliens created the city of Taxon, a home for as close an approximation to life from Earth as they can manage. Placed safely in a large cavern on the inside of an abandoned moon, the project is a blend of archeology and highly advanced programming. With a few lines of code, buildings are built or restored. Most children hear the stories a million times, or listen to that crazy old man telling the legends. They dream of legendary adventures of knights and pirates, or the romance of princes and princesses. All it took was a wish on a star and they could be anything or anyone they wanted to be. But the cruel, harsh world decided that that wasn't in their destiny, so they had to abandon those dreams. The children forgot, and the fairy tales stayed in their world, undisturbed.
However, The Rulers of that same world became bored. They wanted something new, but didn't know how to go about it. Bring in new denizens, The Fool had said to them, and for many years, they ignored him. But the more time went on, the more the Emperor began to get restless. The World said that it would be a bad idea, advised The Emperor, but he captured her and destroyed everything on the Island, and created a new world named Arcanarum.

Meridian
Welcome to Meridian. I know you're probably angry at me. You probably think that one of the other survivors or I brought you here - but that couldn't be further from the truth. Meridian is and always has been a city a tad too close to other worlds, and the incident just made things more... unstable. In other words, the city brought you here, not I. It's a bit hard to swallow, I know, but it's the truth. If it were otherwise, believe me, I would have sent you home by now.
I'm not sure how to do so, for the record. Sending you home, I mean. Perhaps Meridian will bring you home in its own time. I know this must be distressing, so I hope it does.
