I think I need to address what today is, both for myself and for my LJ friends. I grew up in northern New Jersey but, really, I feel like a New Yorker-I lived only 15 minutes away from NYC and spent a great deal of my time there as I grew up. As a suburb, my area of NJ only existed as it did (and only continues to exist as it does) because of its ( Read more... )

She told us that, in times of crisis where no action could be taken, all we could do was resort to routine for comfort…and it kind of worked. That's exactly what my Spanish teacher said when we found out at 10:30 pm Eastern time. I vividly remember that day ( ... )

That was great - thanks for sharing. From a historical perspective, I really love hearing stories from people who were actually in the area at that time.

Wow, Laura. Reading this gave me chills, and almost brought me to tears. You obviously know I've never been to NYC, but you also obviously know its always been my dream. I remember exactly where I was when we found out the towers had been hit. It's nothing like your story, but I was in High school, I think I was a freshman. I was in my first class of the day - band. That sounds kind of ludicrous doesn't it? Just one paragraph? But most all of us didn't really understand, were either to young and selfish or detacthed - it didn't really affect us directly like it did you. It really helped to read what you wrote here, it's hard for my to picture you like that somehow - confused, unsure, trying to cope and feeling isolated. I know you are all of ( ... )
