I personally agree with the ruling more for the security issue than anything else. I was told that in Texas, where possessing concealed weapons is legal, crime went down a good few percent. A criminal doesn't know if his victim has a gun or not, so why try?
Also, if people can't have guns in their homes to protect themselves, what will they have? Knives? Throwing stars? Magic powder? The criminals, more often than not, WILL have guns, legal or not, at least make it a fair fight.
That's my two cents. I do totally agree with your thoughts though, as creepy as they may be (the idea of the government controlling exactly who has guns.)
