Oh, what a beautiful bittersweet moment in time. I love the complexity of your Lee (I'm going to come back to that point later, okay? Remind me if I forget.) Your Lee is damaged and angry and still so good that he doesn't take what he should. He's a messed up, fucked up kid and the most altruistic GOOD soul there is. It makes me ache to read him here... the way he puts himself second (even though he desperately doesn't want to.) I believe in him the way that I wanted (but didn't always) believe in the Lee from canon. Your language is - as always - a joy to read. Tiny details just glow in this. WOW! All in all, it's just beautiful. Thank you!
Now my aside. I think that you channel Lee. I think HE is the character you really know... the one you trust and understand. I can hear it about the way you write him and the subtle (almost imperceptible) changes you make to the Kara that circles him.
I haven't written much, but I know already that I tend to write things mostly from Kara's POV, so it's interesting to hear you say how much I can channel him. It was a nice change of pace for me, one I may just have to continue with in the future!
I don't think the POV we use tends to display it... more the subtle tendencies and variations we tend to give our characters. I'd be willing to bet you don't have a record (even juvenile) and that you tend to be a rule-follower who thinks before they act. I would also think that as much as you LOVE Kara (because that's also clear and evident in your writing, don't ever doubt that) you don't multi ship. I could be entirely wrong, but at least in your long fic and in this one, that's the 'voice' that tends to come out for me. ;)
Haha! The way you typed me from my writing is so on the money it's almost frightening. But also extremely cool that so much of that could be evident in just the way I write.
Thanks! Lee just seemed like the obvious person for her to call, to me. He's a friend, reliable, safe, and there's something lingering underneath their friendship still that makes Kara know he'd do anything for her.
