[From this thread, dated to May 3.]It was not often that Coin formed strong intent on his own behalf, but once he did it was very hard to budge him. And the whole subject of wizards marrying was one on which he already had strong feelings, of course ( Read more... )

"I don't know about other people, I've only met Bill and Lucy who are both brave and brilliant and marrying material." Coraline said, she didn't think of Cain or Adam in that category. They were far too old and it was just icky, they were like dads.

"Of course Coin is sorry." Lucy's fingers curled in Ghost's fur as she spoke, the white direwolf silent beside her. "It doesn't matter. What happened before is before, what happens now is what matters. You've seen him here Coraline, haven't you?"

Thoughts of Edmund and Eustace both were in her mind, her cheeks flushed pink as she spoke. "We'll none of us get married for years. Coraline can like whomever she wants Coin, not all wizards are bad. Bill is good, he cooks us dinner every Friday, and I've never seen anything horrible about him, or the others."

It was decided in her mind, as she looked between them both, relaxing finally. "Now, can we have some tea? Coraline, you wanted to meet the wolves, didn't you?"

I didn't think he was bad, I know good wizards too, thought Coin, though in retrospect he wasn't quite sure what he had thought would happen in a place without magic. Either way, he didn't... quite feel like talking right now. Lucy had evidently decided what they were going to do, so they'd do that.

"He's rubbish at football but that's okay because all he needs is practice." Coraline said honestly, forcing her knees to stay upright and not curtsey at Lucy. Lucy probably wouldn't like that. "I tried to tell him that but he wouldn't listen. I like Bill but if I can't marry him, I'd like to marry you Lucy. In the future."

Coraline smiled and held out her hand to Coin. "Yes please. Is this them?"

"This is Ghost, and that's Shadow," She nudged Ghost and he stepped forward, Shadow not far behind. Lucy didn't know how to explain that she didn't want to get married. It wasn't something she thought she'd ever do, at least no time soon. "It's not as if we could even get married for years and years Coraline."

Coin just stared at Cora's extended hand with wide gold eyes. He knew what you usually did with one of those, but this particular situation was not part of his experience. He opened his mouth to ask Lucy what he should do now, but when the words didn't assemble themselves properly he just closed it again.

"I like to plan ahead," Coraline said simply. "And it was bothering Coin."

Coraline sighed and took Coin's hand, holding it in her own. Coraline pulled Coin forward with her as she wanted to see Ghost and Shadow. "Hello." Coraline said softly, looking at the wolves.

Things would be better now, she told herself, smiling at them both. "I'm only eleven Coraline."

Shaking her head slightly she turned to Coin, the wolves content with Coraline's attentions. "It isn't your place to say such things Coin. If Coraline wants to dream about Bill, she can." Even if Lucy thought it was silly. "You can't dictate your friends friends."
