Chapter One: I don't even LIKE chicken.

-

Lee Jinki eyed the large building in front of him. With delivery box in hand, he checked the address again just to make sure. The logo of L&K Designs was elegantly displayed on the clear doors. He definitely had the right address. He adjusted his cap and jacket before securing his bike outside and pulling open the doors. As soon as he stepped inside though, he was almost overrun by a crowd of people shuffling papers around and making phone calls.

He stepped out of their way nervously and made his way up to the front desk while admiring the décor of the lobby. The woman at the front desk was on the phone and speaking hurriedly, face flustered and exhasperated. “No. He specifically asked for salmon colored ribbon. No, pink and salmon are NOT the same color. Pink is not going to cut it. No- No, NO.” Jinki winced as she raised her voice. She looked up at him and gave him a “what do you want?” glare. He held up the delivery box and smiled sheepishly. She rolled her eyes and covered the receiver. “Fourth floor. Second hallway, fifth door on your left,” was all she said before going back to her phone call. “NO. I will NOT jeopardize my job just because you don't know the difference between salmon and pink-”

Jinki hurried away past another crowd of people holding swatches of fabric and got hit several times before he could make it to the elevator. “Everyone sure seems busy around here...” He got into the elevator and pressed the button for the third floor. On his way up, it stopped at the second floor where a multitude of people got on. He glanced at the floor before the doors closed, catching a glimpse of people at flat desks drawing or sewing on mannequins.

Finally, he managed to make it to the fourth floor and squeezed his way out, almost tripping over his feet. “I wonder what's going on...” This floor seemed a little bit calmer, a few people in fancy looking clothes walked around or sat. He walked past the first hallway and saw it lead to a series of cubicles. Bright lights shone out from the open doors, along with bright flashes of light. “Beautiful, now a little to the left. Perfect, you're gorgeous, you're gorgeous!”

Jinki kept walking, but he couldn't help but take a glance back to see the back of the photographer. His hair was blonde tipped, and dressed immaculately while taking photos from different angles. “I'm a genius,” he heard him say faintly. Suddenly he turned around with a smirk on his face. Jinki caught his eyes for a moment before disappearing into the next hallway.

“Fifth door on the left... Fifth door on the left...” He stopped at a partially open door and knocked on it several times before peeking inside. A bunch of people were sitting in chairs in front of mirrors while a tall, skinny boy was carefully applying their makeup. The other artists applied the basics but it looked like he was the one doing the real art.

“Hey, who ordered the greasy fattening chicken?” One of the models called out as they spotted the delivery box in Jinki's hand. “That would be me,” the skinny boy said. “Figures. You're the only one who doesn't gain any weight here, no matter how much you eat. I'm so jealous of you Taemin-ah.” He flashed her a cute smile and posed with a peace sign before doing some finishing touches. “Just leave it on the table ajusshi.” He stood up straight and marveled at his work.

“Actually, take some to the next hallway would you? To the photographer in the next hallway. He's been taking pictures all day. I think he forgot to eat again. I'll tip extra of course.”

“Sure...” He watched the boy divide it up and hand him the plate. He backed out of the room again, suddenly feeling self conscious about his looks. The models were gorgeous. He sighed and pulled his cap down lower over his face. As he approached the cubical from earlier, he was momentarily blinded by a bright flash of light. He stopped for a moment and blinked his eyes.

Someone bumped into him, and he almost dropped the plate. “Minho-ah! I told you to come see me before you went in again. Your makeup is coming off!” The boy Taemin pulled out a few brushes and ran out onto the set. “Taeminnie. How many times do I have to tell you not to run out onto the set while I'm taking pictures? I was in the zone!” Jinki stood in the doorway and couldn't help but notice the male model on the set. Now he could put all the others to shame.

“Yah. Delivery boy. Are you just going to stand there or are you going to bring that over here so I don't starve to death?” The photographer flashed a killer smile. Dazed, Jinki didn't realize his body was moving on its own, nor did he hear the warnings from the other people. His feet got caught in a cable running on the floor.

Everything seemed to go in slow motion. The chicken flying out of his hands, the horrified looks on everyone's faces, and the eventual domino effect of falling items knocking into each other.

There were several deafening crashes followed by loud yells that were heard muffled on the floor above. A secretary adjusted her glasses after hearing the story relayed from someone below. Her finger was shaking as she pressed in the intercom button to page the boss. “S-sir... there's been a... an accident downstairs in the photography floor.

A pair of cat-like eyes looked up from the paperwork. “Then tell Jonghyun to take care of it.”

“You should probably go down there sir.” He sighed as he laid down his pen. Fixing stray hairs that had fallen out of place, Kim Kibum, the K in L&K Designs stood up and walked across his office. “There better be a damn good reason as to why I'm being disturbed.” He let out an angry breath and headed for the elevator.

-

It wasn't a pleasant scene on the fourth floor. And it got even worse when Kim Kibum stepped out of the elevator to see models hiding against the walls. The cubicle walls were all on the floor, props were destroyed, lights lay on the ground flickering. Jonghyun, Minho, and Taemin were all standing in a group near the elevator with a man in a jacket and a cap lover over his face. He was hunched over and kneeling on the ground.

“Key! This isn't as bad as it looks. I swear!” Jonghyun said as he hurried over. Key blinked a few times before raising a hand to his forehead and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Tell me I'm not seeing this. Tell me I'm hallucinating.”

“The fashion show is in TWO DAYS. What the HELL happened here? I'm going to kill someone. I'm going to kill someone, and I'm going to kill them dead.”

“I wasn't aware there was a way to kill someone that didn't make them dead.” Key's glare stopped the laughter from the blonde almost immediately. “Use your soothing words Key.”

“... Prada... Chanel... Gucci...”

“Two of your male models got injured. They can't walk so they can't participate in the fashion show in two days,” Jonghyun said as fast as he could before dashing away. Key's eyes flashed a dangerous color. His voice was murderous.

“Who. Is. Responsible. For. This.” All eyes in the room turned to the man kneeling on his hands and knees. Key stormed over to him. “Get up.” Jinki scrambled to his feet. “Who are you.” His voice squeaked when he answered.

“Chicken delivery boy...” Key let out an angry breath. “...I don't even LIKE chicken.” He went on a long rant for a while, a long angry rant filled with choice words, and all Jinki could do was stand there and listen.

“I'm calling your manager. I hope you get fired into oblivion!” Jinki looked up, alarmed. “No! No, please don't do that! I beg of you, I need this job!” He pulled off his hat and kneeled again.

Key whipped around. “Oh yeah? Really now? Well then- Wait.” He walked over to Jinki and grabbed his chin, adjusting the glasses on his face to get a better look. “Taeminnie. Come here and fix his face.” The boy jumped over and took a good look at Jinki's face. “Not bad actually...”

“Excuse me. There's nothing wrong with my face.”

“Be quiet.” Jinki shut his mouth immediately. Taemin spent a couple minutes on his face before brushing his hair out of the way and moving so Key could get another look. “What's your name?”

“Lee Jinki.” Key gripped his by his chin again and moved his face from side to side. Jonghyun and Minho look on in amusement. “Poor guy... Key's hands hurt man.”

“Since someone like you obviously doesn't have enough money to pay for damages, you're going to work for me to pay it all off.” Jinki looked startled for a moment. “You're going to be the extra man. Errand boy. Messenger. Assisstant. Whatever it is there is to do around here. On Friday, you're going to sub in as a model for this show and you better not screw it up or I swear I will make you disappear off the face of this planet.” He turned towards the makeup artist. “And once you finish makeup tomorrow, you'll be participating in the show too.”

“What?? But why?”

“You ordered the chicken didn't you?”

“What? How did you know it was-”

“No one here dares to even touch that kind of food except you. I may love you but it's your damn fault too.” Taemin pouted as he shoved his brushes into his bag. Minho looked at Jinki up and down in amusement. “Are you sure he can even walk down the runway without tripping over something?”

“You're going to coach him. He better be perfect by Friday.” Minho's face showed surprise for a moment then exasperation. Jonghyun looked around at the three sulky faces and Key's angry face. “Not going to say anything?” Key spit out venemously. The other man shook his hand and held up his hands. Taemin leaned over to Jinki who had gone completely pale. “Don't worry... He's just stressed out from this fashion show. He's really nice actually...” Jinki turned and looked at the other boy with a disbelieving look on his face.

“You start tomorrow. Now get out of my sight!” Key stormed off to the elevator, never stopping his glare.

“Well then... on the bright side, I've got another pretty face to capture.” Jonghyun clapped his hands together once and patted Jinki on the shoulder, which brought a blush to his face. Wait a second. Why was he blushing? The room was hot. It was definitely because the room was hot. It had nothing to do with that lopsided grin on the photographer's face.

“... The next two days are going to be very, very long.”
