Chapter 04 - No Rest For The Weary
--
Minho’s alarm went off at precisely six o’clock am. He groaned as he untangled an arm from his sheets and slammed it down onto his poor alarm clock. Eyes still unopened, he rolled over and felt the indention from a body that was laying beside him.
He sat up and rubbed his eyes, stretching his arms above his head. Scratching the back of his head, he glanced around his room. For lack of a better word, it was a complete disaster. Everything was knocked over, something was bound to be broken, and he wasn’t quite sure where his clothes were in the mess.
The balcony doors were slightly ajar, revealing the missing boy standing on said balcony, leaning on the railing, lost in his thoughts with a cigarette between his fingers. Minho dragged himself out of bed before scooping up a pair of sweats from the floor. He pulled them on and joined Key on the balcony.
Minho noticed that Key was bare-chested and left his skinny jeans unbuttoned and unzipped. And he definitely wasn’t wearing any underwear. He could feel some of the passion from last night stirring up again as he walked over and placed both arms on either side of Key.
Key could feel the heat radiating off of Minho’s chest, but just took another drag of his cigarette, blowing smoke into the cool morning air.
“What are you doing up so early?” Minho murmured into his ear. The birds were barely starting to chirp. “Smoke break,” Key said without looking at him. He ground out the cigarette on the railing and stood up straight, bumping into Minho’s chest. Minho stood up with him and wrapped his arms loosely around his waist, lacing his fingers gently.
They were silent for a while, staring off into the distance together, watching the sun peek over the horizon. Eventually, Key unlaced his fingers and walked back inside, avoiding the various messes in his room.
Minho followed him silently as he walked towards the bathroom. Key turned on the water and took his pants off, Minho leaning against the doorframe to the bathroom. He opened up the shower door and glanced over his shoulder with a devious smile.
“Coming?” Minho didn’t know why he bothered to put on pants in the first place.
--
“Stay for breakfast.” Key finished helping Minho with his tie. Minho tried to search Key’s eyes for any emotion but found the same expression he always saw on him. Blank, but thoughtful. “Can’t. I’m too tired to deal with a bitch fit from Taemin.” Minho stayed silent. It’s not like he could make him stay. He was a free man, and they weren’t in a relationship. He could do what he wanted. At least, that’s what Minho kept telling himself.
Key adjusted his blazer for him and tilted his head back and forth. “You look good in a suit.” He went around the room and picked up whatever belongings of his he could find before getting ready to leave. Minho walked him out to the door and watched with an almost sad expression as he left.
Suddenly he saw Key reach into his pocket, press a few buttons on his phone and put it back up. The phone in his pocket buzzed as he received a text. He pulled it out of his pocket and read the message.
Don’t you fall in love with me either.
Minho sighed as he shook the phone in his hand. He wasn’t in love with Key. It was just the leftover feelings from the absolutely mind blowing sex they had last night. He wasn’t in love with Key. He wasn’t in love with Key. He closed his eyes as he hit his head on the door frame.
He was in love with Key.
--
Key opened the door quietly to his apartment as to not disturb Taemin. He dropped his keys into the small bowl on the kitchen table. He noticed a pair of shoes at the front that were too big to belong to either of them. He raised an eyebrow and walked past Taemin’s room for a moment.
The door was slightly ajar, and he could see Taemin asleep on Jinki’s chest, with Jinki’s arm slung across his waist. Key smirked. Thank god they were covered. He could see the clothes thrown everywhere. Key chuckled to himself. Maybe now Taemin would stop acting like he had a stick up his ass all the time. He stopped and thought about the irony of that thought before shaking his head and walking into his room, shutting the door behind him.
--
The clanging of dishes in the kitchen jerked Taemin and Jinki awake. Taemin groaned and sat up for a moment before Jinki’s arms encircled his waist and pulled him back down. “Jinki...” He said giggling as the other man pulled him up closer to him and planted small kisses on his temple. “I’m going to be late for work.” Jinki groaned and let go of Taemin, sitting up and running his hand through his bed head.
“I forgot you worked at a normal hour.” Taemin grabbed some clothes from his closet and put them on. Jinki searched around for his clothing and followed Taemin out to the kitchen where Key sat holding a cup of coffee, two more steaming cups sitting on the table.
Taemin waited for Key to make a sarcastic or snide remark. But he just wiggled his eyebrows at the coffee on the table. “I made coffee.”
Jinki and Taemin looked at each other for a moment before sitting down and joining Key for coffee. The silence was sort of awkward, but Key didn’t seem to notice. He was too busy smirking at the two of them as they sipped their coffee.
“So... How was the sex?” He asked, taking another sip. He had to hold back laughter as Taemin spit out his coffee all over Jinki. Jinki’s ears turned a bright shade of red as he swallowed his coffee, helping Taemin wipe him off.
“That bad huh?” Jinki turned wide eyes towards Key, who gave him an expectant look. His mouth opened and closed silently like a fish.
“Key~!” Taemin pouted as he whined out his roommate’s name. This time, Key let a genuine smile appear on his face. It had been a while since Taemin acted cute. Ever since his mother committed suicide... Key shook the thoughts from his head.
“C’mon Jinki, let’s get you out of those clothes and clean you up...” Jinki turned even more red as Key glared at him over his coffee cup. “You better not hurt my baby or I will hunt you down and castrate you.” The fact that Key said that with a smile on his face made Jinki even more scared. Taemin rolled his eyes as he tugged on Jinki’s sleeve. “Let’s go.” He glared at Key.
Key held his hands up in defeat and stood up. “I had to go to work anyway.”
--
“You seem relaxed today.” Jonghyun grinned his usual crooked grin at Minho as they waited for Jinki to join them for lunch. Minho flipped through the menu for a second before putting it down. “Do I?” Jonghyun stared at him for a moment before jabbing a finger into his cheek. “You got laid last night didn’t you? Didn’t you?”
“Sorry I’m late guys!” Jinki ran up to them out of breath. He was positively glowing with the biggest smile on his face. Minho shook his head. There was no way Jonghyun wasn’t going to pick up on that.
“And what’s up with you? You’re never late. And you look like you’ve just won the lottery or something. Not that you need to.” Jonghyun sipped his drink and looked between the two of them suspiciously. “No! You BOTH got laid?!” Jinki cleared his throat as the waiter came to take his order. Minho called the waiter over and whispered something into his ear before he nodded and walked away.
“Seems like I’m the only one who isn’t getting any. Not that I’ve been trying.” Minho chuckled to himself as Jinki grinned at him.
“Finally hit a dry spell now have you?” Minho said with laughter in his voice. Jonghyun let out a loud and dramatic sigh. “My life isn’t all about sex, booze, and girls.”
“It isn’t?!” Jinki made a face of mock surprise which turned to laughter as soon as Jonghyun punched him in the shoulder. “Whatever. Anyway, my dad wants to invite you guys and your family to this party thing he’s having. Apparently he won something and wanted to throw a needlessly extravagant party. And I don’t want to be bored out of my mind, so you two have to come. Bring dates.”
Minho mused silently to himself. He knew without a doubt in his mind that the reason Jinki was so happy was because of a certain Gucci salesman. Was this something he wanted to take Key to? He kept musing as the food arrived.
“When is this party?”
“This Friday. Are you bringing Key?” Minho shrugged his shoulders. Jonghyun turned to Jinki who was stuffing his mouth. “Who are you going to bring? I can still set you up with the Gucci salesman.” Jinki started choking on his food again, causing Jonghyun to smack Jinki’s back.
“No. Not necessary.”
“Are you sure? I mean...”
“It’s not necessary.” Jonghyun backed off at Jinki’s forceful words. “If you say so...”
--
It was a slow day at the shop. Key sat around the front with the other guys, joking around. It was known at the shop that Key was openly gay. And as such, the guys took it upon themselves to make as many offensive gay jokes as possible. Key always thought the jokes were lame, and he knew they didn’t mean them.
He rolled his eyes. “Don’t make me shove something up your ass. And it won’t be my dick.” There was a roar of laughter as Key lit up another cigarette. “Man Key, cigarettes combined with all this exhaust, you’re going to die of lung cancer before you reach thirty.”
“Good.” He smirked and bounced the small stick between his fingers.
“Delivery for Key!” They all looked up to see a neatly wrapped package being placed down at the front of the shop. Curious, Key pushed himself up and went to go get it. Attached to the top was a small note in untidy handwriting.
Since you didn’t want breakfast.
He smiled to himself as he brought it over to the group of guys. “What is it?”
“I don’t know man, but it smells heavenly.”
“It’s my lunch. And I’ll be damned before I share any with you guys.” He felt the front pocket of his jumper vibrate. He fished around for a bit until he found Minho’s phone.
Party Friday night. Dress to impress.
Key laughed and sent back a reply.
I need to go shopping again.
The reply came back almost instantaneously.
I’ll pick you up later.
“Who’s that?”
“My sugar daddy,” Key said with another smirk. “Now shut up and eat.”
--
The tinkling of the shop bell jerked Jinki from his thoughts again. But instead of seeing who he wanted to see, he saw Key making a beeline towards him. “Oh, hi Key-” He managed to squeak out before the boy gave him a look.
“Are you going to tell Taemin?” Jinki was confused.
“Tell him what?”
“That you’re the richest man in the country.” Jinki was silent. “I will,” he said quietly. “I just don’t know how to. He always gets so bitter when he talks about rich people though.” Key twiddled his thumbs for a moment. He was silent, lost in his thoughts. Jinki watched him with a worried expression.
“Taemin grew up in a very happy family. Or so he thought.” Jinki already didn’t like where this story was going. “But one day his dad divorced his mom and ran off with some heir to a corporation, leaving him and his mom to fend for themselves.” Jinki stiffened.
“Then his mom fell in love with a rich guy. He made her feel like she was the world to him. Then out of the blue, he just dumped her. His mom was so depressed that she committed suicide.” Jinki was speechless.
“W-w...why are you telling me this?” Key’s eyes narrowed as he stared at the other man. “Because I don’t want him to get hurt. He’s going to find out sooner or later. And if you don’t tell him, I will. Today.”
Key gave a long cold look to Jinki. “You’re a good guy. I can see that. Taemin is head over heels for you. I don’t think it would bother him too much. But don’t expect him to be all sunshine and rainbows.” Right on cue, there was another tinkling as the door opened.
“Oh Key. You’re here.” Key turned to give a smile to Taemin as he sat down beside him.
“I was just leaving. I’ll see you at home much later tonight.” Taemin looked confused at Key’s abrupt departure but said goodbye anyway. He turned to Jinki with a bright smile on his face. “What was that all about?” Jinki chewed on his bottom lip for a second.
“I have something to tell you.” Taemin looked at him curiously. “Okay.”
“I... I have a little bit more money that I look like I have.” Taemin laughed. “Only a little bit? Your full name is Lee Jinki right? As in Lee Corp United?” He sipped his drink, trying not to laugh at Jinki’s shocked expression.
“You knew?”
“Of course. The day you came to visit with your jerk friend. My coworkers were talking about how you were more handsome in real life. That’s when I found out. Were you ever going to tell me?” Taemin gave him an expectant expression too much like Key. Jinki sighed.
“It’s not like I wasn’t going to tell you, I just... You know, I didn’t want you to lump me into the rich, snobby people stereotype before getting to know me because...” He mumbled the last part.
“What did you say?”
“Because... I like you.” Taemin grinned. “I suppose... if there are rich people like you... it wouldn’t be so bad right?” Jinki smiled in relief until Taemin’s expression suddenly turned hard. “But if you’re using me, you might as well just tell me right now. I don’t have time to deal with that shit.” Jinki quickly shook his head. “No, my feelings are real. Trust me.” Taemin relaxed a little bit.
“You’re not going to use me for my money are you?” Jinki asked with a raised eyebrow. Taemin almost choked on his drink laughing. “Have I ever asked you to buy me anything? In the months that I’ve been visiting this coffee shot? I’d like to pay for things myself if you please.” Jinki raised his hands up. “Whatever you want.”
“But I wouldn’t mind you spoiling me every now and then,” he said with a smirk.
Jinki laughed that laugh that made his eyes disappear. Taemin felt warmth flooding his body. He could trust him right? They didn’t have a one night stand. Jinki was still standing there smiling at him like he was the best thing that could happen to him. Jinki was still playing with his fingers absentmindedly. Jinki was still there.
“Well, there’s this party on Friday that I’d like to take you to as my date,” Jinki said thoughtfully. “I’m sure you’ll recognize a few customers there...” Taemin made a gagging face. “Are you kidding me?”
--
AN;; Woo! Party and epic drama next chapter to make up for this nothingness here. I still haven’t decided exactly how long I want this story to be. Usually I decide by the halfway point, but since I haven’t decided, I guess I’m not halfway yet? HAHA. I know Jonghyun doesn’t have a really big role as of right now, but he becomes a bit unbearable later. (In other words, Jonghyun becomes... the bad guy.)
