Ow!

So.....this is something that isn't altogether a new experience, but it hasn't happened in a while, and I've never had it go on so long. So...my calf muscle decided to randomly throw a shit fit while I was taking my boots off in a shop (to try on a pair). This has happened before, actually when I was working in shops and on my feet, that's when it ( Read more... )

Ow! Not fun.

I reccommend applying heat or cold, whichever you prefer.
Sometimes nothing eases muscles like a nice bag of frozen peas, lol.

How was camping and bronze casting?
And were the boots you were trying pretty?

Didn't get to do the bronze casting because the wife of the guy doing it went into labour that night and he had to floor it to get to the hospital! Which is MORE THAN FAIR ENOUGH. Was cold enough camping, but then there was a frost!

Nice pair of Docs, which means between the two of us, Neil and I have five pairs, but I consider it an investment!

Yeah, that seems fair to me, too. ;-P

Investment is good.

But wouldn't the cold just make it all tense up? Tension is the problem. I totally get it in terms of a muscle injury, but that's not what this is at all. Hmmm

I find the cold draws out the pain, but the heat relaxes the muscles. We have so many microwaveable wheat/cherry stone heat wraps in this house, but Mum and I both need them because our back muscles get really stiff at night. Probably heat would help you more - I get that leg cramp thingy at night sometimes and just move a wrap from my back to around the sore muscle and it helps.

Ice for about 5 minutes on and then off - repeat about four or five times.
The cold constricts the blood vessels and the recovering to room temperature dilates them again drawing in new blood with lots of yummy nutrients - everything your muscle needs to set itself right again. That should take care of most aches and pains.
You can buy a handy biofreeze spray at the chemist which will do the work of a bag of peas too.

There are pretty much only two muscles where your calf is.

I used to get cramps in my legs, especially while I was on the pill and the doc reccommended Tonic water, tastes icky but it has quinnen(which I can't spell) which stops cramps. You don't need to drink much I used to just have a few slugs out of the bottle morning and eve.
