Living on the Outskirts, Friday, Period 2

Oct 05, 2012 10:35

Today when the students came into the room, the layout was the same as always: Comfortable, relaxed. The shadowy corner had been entirely obliterated, and Jonothon was sitting and waiting for the lot, not bothering to use a chair so much as simply floating at the front of the room with his legs crossed and his hands resting in his lap, coat collar ( Read more... )

More rambling on! That's probably not surprising. Jonothon floating in mid-air might be a bit surprising for a while, or it might not. Maybe you just want to take notes. Or to pass them.

Indispensible?? Sorry, Jono, but Mercy found that incredibly hard to believe. The werewolves made it clear that they could do just fine without her and she was so indispensible that her mother had gone and made herself a whole new family that Mercy wasn't a part of and hadn't known about - and her mom hadn't found it necessary to tell them about her either.

Sure seemed like she was the ultimate in dispensible.

Not that she tried to think of herself that way, but still.

The floating trick was pretty cool, and Victor spent more time than he probably should have focused on wondering if he could replicate it instead of on listening to what Jono was saying.

But he wasn't sure this lecture was for him. He didn't have the kind of angst about being a cyborg Jono seemed to be talking about outsider status in terms of -- at least, not most of the time. As far as he was concerned, he fit in fine with people who weren't bigoted jerkoffs.

Assignment Pt. 1 - What Sets You Apart apocalipped October 5 2012, 13:39:37 UTC
You can just think on it, or you can share it with the class, if you wish. There's a reason each and every one of you is in Jonothon's classroom today.

So, what is that reason?

Hello, coyote here.

Her mom and the werewolves and people where she'd grown up had made it more than clear that that set her apart.

"I'm the only one from my galaxy at this school who's got his head screwed on straight," Atton shared.

What actually set him apart? Like he was going to share that. Or do anything besides actively avoid thinking about it.

For that, Cade threw a pencil at him. "Hey."

Assignment Pt. 2 - What Makes You Belong apocalipped October 5 2012, 13:42:13 UTC
And, the same as the last part of the assignment, only in reverse. There's no way each and every one of you is so completely alien to the people around you that there's nothing about you that couldn't possibly find a place to belong, if that first thing were to suddenly not be an issue any more.

Think on it, or share it with the class. Jono suspects that hearing people whose circumstances aren't entirely different from your own speak about them might help you feel perhaps a bit more as though you could belong, somewhere.

Mercy shrugged. "I think I fit in pretty well here at Fandom. Nobody really cares," or well, okay, even knows for the most part, "about how I might be different."

"I've actually met a bunch of people from Canada here," Toby shared. "It's kinda nice, finding people from home in a place that's not. I mean, sure, if I wanted to be surrounded by Canadians I guess I could just go back to Toronto. But there's something about finding a small community within a larger one that's just," he shrugged. "It brings people together more."

"There's lots of other mutants here, and no one's afraid of us here," Billy said. "That last part alone is pretty awesome."
