"... and Narcissus looked down into the pool and, seeing his own reflection, felt as though his heart would burst from such beauty. Hour after hour, he gazed into still water, bewitched by his own reflection. Slowly, the hours became days, and finally weeks. Narcissus grew thinner and thinner, unable to pull himself away to find even food to feed ( Read more... )

this is well written.. and I had strong yet opposing feelings about it! on the one hand, I agree totally! everyones special is special. but I think it is ok to acknowledge said specialness.

very thought provoking - so well done ^_^

Oh, I quite agree that it's ok to acknowledge specialness. I think that it is almost a crime not to acknowledge it. My problem is and has always been the mindset that someone is inherently "better" than someone else due to some accident of birth that never changes. I've met some truly wonderful people and some that I consider absolute trash, but it's because of who they have become, not who they were born.

I love the last line: "your special is no better than mine". I need to remember this, especially during circus. :P

Very cool! I spent a lot of time walking a make-shift tightrope that my dad helped me set up in the back yard.

I was a bit tired when I wrote it, so I may have not been as tactful as I could have, but it is still what I've grown to consider to be true. All "special" is special, but no one more so than any others, not in the long run.
