was knocking at the walls of a cell
created by evolution; breaking down
to break down, as hopeless as our heavy-footed
attempts at flight, dreaming that we will
alight from our individual forms and mould
ourselves a new two-hearted entity.

the cables that unite, the lie we tell
as we beg the laws of the universe to unhand us;
please let someone be watching, please
please let our separate and discreet minds
unfold their barriers and encapsulate
thoughts without boundaries, love without pain.
And all the terrors we have wrought
trying to feel a part of something.

hoping to hear a voice inside
that is not our own.

for beating out of time with the
drum of community, the march
of unity, the hymn;
