OC Mediterranean Nations

Apr 06, 2010 12:18

... so do any of you guys have any nation-tans of your own?
If so -- I'd love to discuss them with you.

I myself have three Mediterranean Nation-tans; ( Crete, Mykonos, & Ephesus ) -- though technically speaking Mykonos & Ephesus are cities/holy sites ( but if Hong Kong can be a character -- so can they! )

I have an Insular Italy (Sicily and Sardinia) who's got like a split personality thing going on? As Sardinia she's really nice and hospitable (tourism/vacationing is the main industry in Sardinia) but as Sicily she's much more hostile.

Speaking of hostile cities -- have you ever been to Venice -- they're quite rude/self-conceited. But you'd think they'd be nicer because they have a huge tourism industry b/c of gondola rides.

Cyprus and TRNC. :D These two appear quite often in my fics because our boys are one big smexy family. Aaaaand I'm still crossing my fingers that their portrayal in the last track of the APH Unofficial Drama CD is Himaruya's sort-of!headcanon.

Cyprus kind of acts like Lithuania and TRNC's this adorable little kid who worships Turkey in a near-sarcastic monotone. ;3;

Lol -- Cyprus would get along well with Crete & Mykonos & Ephesus would probably be happy to have TRNC around.

Yep, you aren't reading wrong there at that last track. :D You can tell TRNC's the little kid because Cyprus (spazzy voiced guy who talks to the old lady) calls him 'kita Kipurosu' a lot. At one point Sealand comes in and Greece and Turkey exchange punches but really, idk what's going on. It's a huge fun to listen all the same.

It takes a while to get used to their voices. Italy's voice is low and Japan's voice is high. Germany still kinda sounds like Germany but the tone isn't as low as Yasumoto's. I can tell America from England sometimes...and Russia if he's even there. He speaks a bit. France I can tell, he sounds kinda like Onasaka, it's impressive.

Switzerland still sounds like Switzerland. Oh, when you hear China here, you'll really doubt his gender. He's the high pitched ...angry person who screeches ARU a lot.

Woo~ tl;dr /is a seiyuu fan

Like I mentioned in my introduction post, I have a Malta OC that has only been mentioned in theory in my AU fanfic about the 1989 summit Bush Senior and Gorbachev had in Marsaxlokk Harbour. He’s very religious, enjoys tradition and friendly competition in politics, sports and the local band clubs. He can be warm and expressive, but doesn’t approve of people instantly acting familiar with him (possibly one of the reasons why after two years of French rule Malta asked the English to help them kick them out--Francis being who he is and all. But this is just a theory).

Also known as “the land of honey,” Winnie the Pooh might’ve considered Malta his Graceland.

I always get confused b/c isn't "the land of milk & honey" referring to Israel & then Malta is simply 'the land of honey' .

I’ve heard that before, too, but OTL it’s been a while since I was studying religion and the Bible. @.@ So I had to do a little research before typing this comment, kick me if I’m wrong, but from what I’ve gathered, “the land flowing with milk and honey” that Yahweh promised the Israelites refers to a land of fertility and agricultural abundance-a greater good from the suffering they were escaping from. Whereas Malta’s nickname “the land of honey” is considered to originate from the bees that are native to Malta and produce a special kind of spicy honey. The Greeks called the island Melite, which means 'honey-sweet,' and the Romans called it Melita.

Oh no -- I was just remarking about the similarities.
& I don't pretend to know anything about religion.
About the extent of my knowledge of the Jewish god or Yawheh or w/e is that he's sent 10 plagues to Egypt, something about a burning bush & coming back w/ something called 'the rapture'.

I have an Israel OC!! Because I know less about Judaism and religion than I should for any Mideast nation, he's based more on the politics/government/workings of the modern State of Israel. i'm drawn more to diplomacy than the super long history of israel and the jewish people. well, i try to take from certain important past events n concepts (whoo political zionism), but i leave the pre-statehood history to israel's grandpa... or mother or whomever - though he himself somehow has an inexplicably long memory for his 61 years. it's a young-at-age-old-at-heart kinda thing. needless to say, my israel probably isn't very thorough ;__; he's young and mild or cheerful around people he's comfortable with, but as soon as he's aggravated/provoked (aka the drama with palestine and iran, america and turkey?) he can be trigger happy and overreact, or be overconfident in detrimental ways...

And I'm working on a Cyprus! have to read more history but so far it's like loooove. i like playing with the idea of enosis 8D

Shouldn't Israel hold a huuuge grudge against Egypt?
or -- if you're basing it on being officially recognized as a nation -- then I suppose that doesn't affect them -- seeing as it was hundreds of years ago.

that's the duality of such a long history - it would make since that israel would have a huge grudge against egypt but then again, egypt was the first arab nation to recognize israel and establish complete bilateral relations. their peace has lasted 30 years. this is despite the distaste other arab nations felt about the new friendship (saudi arabia broke all ties and stopped economic aid to egypt haha!!) of course they've had their bumps, and i imagine their relationship isn't completely bff-y, but it's not hostile at all. course this is all modern!
plus, egypt has been mediating between israel and palestine, trying to forge a piece. much needed and appreciated!
even if egypt's motivation to recognize israel may have been to get closer to america - israel's strongest ally - and climb the ranks of the arab league

OTL ;__;

It seems to me the whole Palestine / Israel issue isn't something I'd want to get involved in -- however -- you're probably right that Egypt will use Israel to get closer to America & something tells me America will be happy to have them oil. >..>;;
