[If anyone cares to walk by this room, they might be greeted by an alarmingly bitter smell. Certainly, no one would blame them if they thought England was cooking in here.

But it's just China in period clothing from the late 1700s, looking a little unwell and fanning the fire under a traditional clay pot. The bitter smell is clearly from whatever ( Read more... )

The 60th year of Qianlong, aru. That's 1795 to a barbarian like you I suppose.

[He waves away his remark that the medicine's not working] I'll be fine in a few days aru.

[No, Taiwan isn't worried about your health. She's not. She swears.]

Hey, laoshi? Wǒ néng bāng nǐ ma? Can I help you? Because I doubt that whatever you're cooking will, eh, help!

[Sniff.] Of course it will help, aru. Don't you think I'd know my own medicine after five thousand years?

It's almost done, but you can take a seat aru. I have osmanthus cakes in a container of ice if you want, aru. [He is of course, referring to the refridgerator HQ has provided him with. Oh, modern marvels.]

I know that medicine well, laoshi. You taught me how to make mine, remember? But now we have some meds that don't stink that much, huh.

[Shakes head and stares.] And it's a fridge. Not an ice container. But hey, let's have some of them... Do you want tea, by the way? It may help you!

[He'll give you a stern look.] Good medicine is always bitter.

... Ah, is that what they call that thing aru? Tea is fine, aru, I have some peony tea my boss gave me last week. [He withdraws a small prettily embroidered pouch from his sleeves.] Have you had this before, aru? It will go well with the cakes.

Phew! What a...strange smell! Japan just wanted to see if everything is okay - he learned that you could never be sure if something strange was happening or not in HQ - and looked into the room and suddenly it felt like his heart skipped several beats...or just raced. He couldn't tell anymore.
"中国...", the japanese whispered, he couldn't believe it! Of course, he met many adult versions of nations he knew...but...China?! He never thought that he could meet Yao here! But...it's a long time since Kiku spoke to him and he's still fearfull of his reaction...after he hurted him so bad. And it was strange, this feeling of cherryblossoms and the feeling of butterflies in his stomach when he saw his beloved big brother...if there wouldn't be this smell, maybe he could smell the slight touch of Opium than which he always adored so much.

Hmm. He thought he heard his name. For a moment he doesn't think about it, sure that it was just his imagination, but then he thinks he'd better check again. Sure enough, Japan's in the doorway, and China smiles when he realizes it.

"It's you, aru. What are you standing in the doorway for? Scared of the smell, aru?" Because as a kid, it'd always been a tough job to get Japan to drink his medicine when he was unwell.

Japan looked down when China finally saw him, not daring to look in those brown eyes again. Maybe he hurted the chinese, but since then he hurted himself more and more with bad conscience. But when he looked up just a bit...he saw a smile on his big brothers face and couldn't do anything but stare at those lips. When was the last time he saw this smile? 30 or 40 Years maybe...when you're all alone you sometimes forget about the time, he guessed.
Because of the question, Kiku shook his head. "I-ieh...W-W-Watashi-", he started, wanting to just harakiri himself for not be able to talk to Yao. "I...just didn't wanted to disturb you...", the japanese finally said, lowering his gaze again.

Something seemed to be bothering Japan. Well, whatever it was, China was sure it wasn't anything that couldn't be cured with good tea and pastries.

"Are you hungry, aru? I have some sesame balls, and my boss just gave me some peony tea the other day." He gestures at a nearby table. "Sit down first aru." The sesame balls are still warm from when he sneaked them from the kitchen earlier, and it doesn't take long for the tea to steep.
