Chase is out on patrol today, shotgun in hand.

There's been no new arrivals lately, and no new bodies, and no new vamps.

Somethign is up.

Link is out on unofficial patrol, but same difference, right? Right.

He's got his sword strapped to his back and is looking quite bored. He does not like this quiet not-fighting-things situation. Chase is a pleasant surprise, even if he's not a horrible monster.

"Hey!" Link waves when he spots Chase.

"I do. I wouldn't lie about that." Link tightens his grip on the gun.

"Anyway," he shakes his head like a wet dog and swallows "Okay. Thank you."

"Want some more instruction in it?"

"Yep, when I finally manage to off myself that could come in pretty handy. Wouldn't want to look uneducated."

"How do I stand?"

"Doesn't matter. What's key is how you grip the gun."

Chase demonstrates the proper method, which the mun has forgotten due to too many shitty movies.

"Stances is all personal. You gotta squeeze the trigger, lightly, don't jerk it. And there's a bit of kickback."

Link mimics the elusive non-Hollywood version of gun handling as demonstrated by Chase, blowing a strand of hair out of his eyes.

"Squeeze lightly, watch out for kickback." Link nods, shifts his shoulders. He pays attention for things like this.

"Go ahead and ease the safety off, and pick a target, there's plenty out here. I've got an extra clip, so you can squeeze off a couple of shots, so you know what to expect when firing it."

It's good to help someone else like this. Gives Chase some purpose.

Link would understand that, if Chase explained it to him. It's his problem too.

He turns the safety off carefully and picks a rock balanced precariously on top of a pile of rubble as his target. He takes a deep breath and slowly releases it as he squeezes the trigger. For a second, he thinks he must have done it wrong -

It's louder than he expected, and the shot goes high over the rock.

"Cool," he breathes, grinning.

"Ya gotta be careful about your aim, but, other then that, it's good."

Chase offers him a second clip. For some reason, he expects Link to hold it over his head and theme music to play. Ah, well.

Link has put those days behind him, Chase! He takes the clip with absolutely no external theme music. Internal, maybe.

"I've got awesome aim. Just apparently not with guns, yet. Hang on."

Link takes aim again, pulls the trigger with a great deal more confidence. He still doesn't hit the rock, but he does hit the rubble.

"See? Almost got the little guy."

"All you need is practice."

Chase kicks at a rock.

"Sadly, we don't have much of that these days, limited resources and all."

"Yeah, I know. My Deku seeds are nearly gone. They're for my sling shot. For, the shooting, you know. Yep." Link headpalms.

"Geez, I could have made that a little less understandable, do ya think? Maybe said it backwards or something, I don't know."

"You can't use rocks, like a normal kid?"

Chase shakses his head.

"I hang out with the hippy, I'm used to it."

"Rocks are - sticky on the air. Like, they stick and twist and don't go through it smoothly." Link tries to demonstrate air-stickiness with hand gestures. There's a lot of hooking and little stabbing movements.

"And that's not good."

"Can, we, like, sharpen them or something?"

Like Chase knows.

"They're still too heavy, and don't explode. What's the point if they don't explode? Explosions are the point! It's ridiculous."
