He's only planning on being in there for a minute, though, as one of the lights in the towers has blown out and needs to be replaced. All he needs to do is

A cybernetic rat pads into the engineering room. Rattrap's a pretty good engineer himself, so he was interested in what they got goin' on in there. He sees the kid there and walks over to him.

He stands on his hind legs before speaking.

"Hey, kid. You work here?"

He...doesn't really understand yet that most humans aren't used to Transformers.

"Yup!" Sokka says over his shoulders, kneeling on the floor and rubbing his chin as he considers the strange contraption in his hand. Did he need this? Was this important? He can't remember and it's definitely not a light bulb, so...

"Looking for something? Someone?" he asks, putting the-- metal thing down and going back to searching in his pile.

No one ever said the boy wasn't focused. It was observant that was debatable.

"Nah. New arrival. Just wonderin' if ya need an extra hand around here. I'm a pretty good engineer, and I'd like ta offer my services."

"Yeah, sure, we can always use new people. Here's how you apply for the job..."

Sokka holds up a finger, still frowning at his pile of junk and begins to intone,

"Find me.......... a light bulb."

Buffy stops in the doorway, trying not to look awkward -- which naturally makes her look more awkward.

"Hey."

There is a glance back and a smile before he returns to digging. "Hey, Buffy! Have you seen a light bulb that looks not-broken around? I think Ed stole all mine and turned them into something new-- or at least, that'll be my excuse in case Harper asks..."

Was she expecting something more... awkward?

She eyes him warily.

"Um -- no? But I wasn't looking." A moment later: "What else can you make with light bulbs?"

"If you're Ed or if you're a normal person?" he asks, frowning as things are tossed over his shoulder, but--

"AH!"

LIGHTBULB!! Held triumphantly in his hand! And grinning!

...and faltering grin as he catches the wary eyeing.
