A boy his age shouldn't have so much on his plate. This is pretty much the only conclusion Ichigo has been able to reach since coming here. The stuff back home...that stuff was weird. Crazy. Way too much for him, he thought. But he handled it, and did so pretty well. But this...this is different. He can't swing a sword at his problems this time, ( Read more... )

Listing Sokka's problems would take a long time: in the most general way possible, he worries about protecting the ones he loves, too. And he'd most likely be right next to Ichigo, moping with the thoughtful and lonely, right along with him-- except he's coming back from flying a kite with Aang.

Kite-flying with the Avatar leaves no room for moping. Even when your family has drop-kicked your heart a few times in the last day.

So it is a somewhat cheerful Sokka who is eyeing Ichigo with-- either concern or wariness. Probably wariness when he pokes the other boy with his shoe.

"...You okay?"

"Is anybody really ok livin' in this place? Don't you people ever miss your family and friends and just want to get the hell off this stupid rock?"

He knows he does. Really, really badly.

Oh, that. Right. It's been a long time since Sokka talked to a newcomer.

There's a pause before he slips hands in his pockets and stops poking Ichigo. "...My family's all here with me. But-- yeah, I get what you mean. It's why we're working on a way home."

Well, he was. Now he's not sure what he'll be doing anymore.

"And how is that comin' along, huh?"

He's not getting his hopes up. Most people he's met so far don't seem to be too excited about leaving anytime soon. Seems not many know when or even if they'll get back home.

There's not really anyone for Wallace to care about, no one to protect but himself. Admittedly, back home that's a chore all its own, but it's not the source of any Revelations, or confusion here.

What's bothering him now is what he's heard about organization in this place, and a lot of nervous energy building up, but no knowledge of what needs to be done. Tomorrow, perhaps. he'll head out to explore, to find this mall he's heard about, and accomplish something useful, if only decorating his room.

Theoretically, getting out of Basin City would be agreeable. Then again, optimally, the destination would be somewhat better than the place he left.

So, while he doesn't look lonely as he steps outside for a breather, he is thoughtful, and observant. "Hey, kid." Well, it's a greeting of sorts, for the glum youngster. "This place really that bad?"

"Compared to home? Fuck yes." An honest answer. At least back home he knew what to do, he had something to keep himself busy and useful. Here, nothing.

He could go beat on ...whatever the threatening critters are. Wallace doesn't really know yet either. Or scavenge for food and supplies. Though Wallace is feeling rather useless himself at the moment, so he could sympathize.

"Fair enough." He shrugs. "But I don't expect sulking will help matters any." Perhaps he's not the most tactful when it comes to speaking with young people. All those years spent in a harsh place like Basin City may have contributed.

"Well duh." He hates it when people say stuff like that. "'Course sulking ain't gonna help! But I don't know what will so I'm gonna keep on sulking, thank you very much."

Damn adults always saying stupid things like that.

"Hey, who's -- Ichido?"

Buffy will never be a speech therapist.

Interrupted from his sulking deep thought, Ichigo glances at her with a bit of surprise.

"Ichigo. Nice to see ya again, Muffy."

Even if he's bummed out, he hasn't lost his sense of humor, small though it may be.

"Oh, burn," says Buffy. "My inner kindergarten is crushed."

"Am I interrupting some quality brooding or something?"

"No, just kinda, you know, missin' family and junk. I'm still not sure if I'm ever gonna get out of this place. People seem to say 'Maybe, we're looking into it' but really...nobody tells me yes or no. It's got me...kinda messed up inside."

He's lived his whole life being around his family. He's always been close to them, loved and protected them, and now...now he's got nothing.

Minako bends down slightly so she is at his eye level and smiles brightly.

"Ohayo!"

Blink blink.

Nothing like a blond chick to ruin a thoughtful moment of sulking thinking deep meaningful thoughts.

"...hey." He replies, not carrying quite the same enthusiasm.

"You're only allowed two hours a day for brooding. Just so you know."

And she flops down next to him.

"...I've probably been at this fifteen minutes. I'll take my full two hours, thanks."

He didn't invite her to join him, but it's really the least of his concerns right now.

"You seem pretty upbeat. Don't you have people back home you miss?"
