Eating is good (Malcolm Reynolds - Room 202)

Jul 11, 2006 13:25

Mal is tired and hungry. Nothing is going right. How do you make a ship when there's hardly anything to make it with? No fuel source? It's wearing him thin but he refuses to give in or give up. He is not staying here ( Read more... )

Inara woke up late. It's not as if there's much way to tell time here anyhow. After a cold shower with her stash of jasmine soap and a change of clothes, she's trying the gaucho pants and mandarian collar blouse, Inara wanders down into room 202. A smile curves her lips at the sight of Mal in there eating something without her having to nag him about it. She wanders over and sits down in a chair near him.

"Hey," she says nudging him slightly with her combat booted foot.

Mal looked up one pantleg to see a face that he hadn't expected. Inara was sitting in front of him looking nothing like she ever had before. She wore pants, a baggy shirt, and combat boots. Her hair was down about her shoulders and he decided he'd never seen her look this... perfect.

"Hey." He realized he was staring and forced his gaze down to the can of food. "Greenbean?" He offered the can up to her from where he sat on the floor. "Ain't the most tasty thing in the verse but it's enough."

He was staring at her she realized after a moment. Of course he'd never seen her completely without makeup...and the clothes...

Inara took the can of green beans from him, speared one with the fork and ate it then sat down on the floor next to him, handing the can and fork back. "I know the clothes are...less than flattering but it's cold here and a sleeveless silk gown isn't exactly practical...J-Joanie wears pants and a sweater and she used to wear gowns," she offered in her defense. "And they brought back soap but no makeup."

"Hey now... ain't gotta defend yourself lookin' so shiny, 'Nara." Mal said, eating another green bean. "Nothin' wrong with pants, even on you. 'Specially on you. Way I see it ain't nothin' to be explainin'. Just keep lookin' like that." He lifted a corner of his lips in a small half grin and looked sideways at Inara.

Lara was clean and dressed and most importantly, well rested. Sh'ed had a bed and made excellent use of it, not getting up until she simply couldn't sleep any more. It was a refreshing change from catching a bit of sleep out there in the nothing, or even in the jungle.

She braided her hair and went down to 202. Mushroom Daddy had said there were cans of food. They would be better than anything she had left in her pack.

Peaches. Peaches would be good.

Mal looked up at the sound of cans clinking together. A woman stood there looking through the cans. She must be after something specific.

"Green beans ain't half bad." He commented from where he sat on the floor.

She turned to see him hunkered down with his can of beans and flashed him a charming grin. "I'll take that under advisement, Mr..." she said. She turned away from the cupboard to face him and waited for his name, trying not to marvel at the tightness of his pants.

"Reynolds... Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Ain't in need of a Mister before it." Mal said with a slight nod. He curved a corner of his lips up in a half grin of his own.

It had been a weird week. Between Krauser's bugging out, spies, people disappearing, and continually weird ass dreams, Revan was more than happy to continue to throw himself into hunts and patrols, burying himself in routine to keep from having to think. But even with all that you eventually had down time. Their situation had changed, or rather Revan's perception of the apartments situation had changed. Weren't things supposed to get better after you win a war? But now it seems less like they won a war and more like the rules got changed and everybody who had noticed was busy trying to keep the place afloat.

So it's a tense and dusty Revan who comes into 202 after a scavenge, blaster rifle slung and holding this.

He spots Mal, and gives a polite nod as he picks up a bottle of water. "Hi there."

Mal nodded at Revan in greeting. "Hi yourself. Been workin' on somethin'?" He asked, noting Revan's dusty appearance.

"Scrambling through a what I think was a some sort of droid repair shop before the roof collapsed. Everything was corroded or melted, but I found this," he waves around the Maglite and takes a swig of water," in drawer. I think it was a light source."

Mal's gaze followed the maglite as Revan waved it about. "Think you can get it back to workin' right?"
