Sam had been doing well during morning training. She'd always been plenty athletic--it had balanced out the fact that Tucker and Danny weren't athletic at all ( Read more... )

Hey, there's nothing wrong with the bright colours and flowers so thoughtfully painted by Kaylee.

Or at least that's what Mel thinks, but Mel has no colour sense. Why else would she dye her hair that colour?

But she's in 202 as well, grabbing some pasta that someone had cooked and left in the fridge, and joining her to eat.

"Hey."

The colors were too bright. They were the kinds of colors Sam's mom tried to get her to dress in.

"Hey," Sam said quietly. "You're, uh...okay, actually I don't know your name, but I've seen you around a lot."

"Mel," she supplies. "And you're... I have no idea actually. Sorry?"

"Sam Manson. I'm...sort of new, and recently I was kind of taking care of a friend," she said. "So I haven't been out in the daylight much."

Not that she wanted to be. Sunlight ruined her lovely pasty complexion.

Sun bad! *Hiss*

Jim's pretty sure that he just had a fight with Katara, and it's occurred to him that maybe he should apologise for . . . whatever.

Unfortunately, Katara isn't in 202, and there's no way Jim's going to take his I'm-Sorry face to her room where Sokka might see, so it's back to the common room, where she JUST might be if he's lucky.

. . . nope, just some skinny chick with too much lipstick.

"Hey." Jim nods at Sam, in that way that he's pretty sure makes his hair do a cool flippy thing.

"...You need a comb."

Sam was not exactly known for her social graces.

"You need a tan."

Neither was Jim.

"Have you seen Katara? She has one."

Offputtishness was endearing to Sam. Not that she'd let up at all.

"No time for going outside. Unlike you, I use it to keep up on personal hygeine," Sam said flatly. "And I haven't seen her lately, no. Although she'd probably make fun of your hair, too."

She tilted her head. "The rat-tail's a nice little addition--very white trash. Classy."
