...anon, perhaps you should be disciplined and first finish studying? I would be more than happy to wait for you.

Oh, dear lord, that would take hours. It's rather tedious reading. RP'ing in between studying helps me not go nuts.

Collective memory is an important part of historical understanding, but it must also be kept in mind that collective memory, this being the history of a special group (either nations or minorities such as worker's movements), their history can have a strong bias. It must always be viewed in the perspective of the history that historians practice, and the values of these two groups are completely opposite. With the former, there is always the risk of loss of objectivity, and historial reality may become convoluted.

Historicism started in Germany, under Leopold von Ranke, around 1800. They say that the autonomy of the past must always be first priority-- that is to say, the past is different from the present and must be treated as such. The second ground rule for historicism is that culture and institutes (such as the church, school etc.) can only be understood when thinking of their historical development. History, as such, is essential for a good understanding of the current world.

happy now? DDD:

[shivers]

it just talks about the historical importance of Galileo and whether he did all the things he did first or whether he had a precedent.

Y-you're pretty touchy-feely, a-aren't you, ma'am?

I-I think that he certainly did ground-breaking things, and was um very gutsy about what he said, but he wasn't the first. There were definitely precedents that he was inspired by, even though they're not as famous as he is. [leans into you ;;]

I like to reward those who have been good..

[keeps rubbing your shoulders, turning it into a massage]

[walks slowly behind you, fingers trailing to the back of your neck, rubbing]

Could you tell me about the precedents he was inspired by? Who were they and what did they do?
