I think I'm in love with the last commenter of part 34. (Hence part 35's title!) Anyway. Umm, not much to say... the summer is almost over! I can't believe it went by so fast. I hope you guys had great summers. :)

Enjoy part 35!

Ah, is it because of your siestas?

[ crouches down next to him ] They will be used to help guide the spirits back to their rightful place.

B-but they're ghosts, Japan! Ghosts! And you can't see them, and they float around and move the furniture and breathe down the back of your neck and you can't see them and... uwaaaaaah!! [cowers]

I am sure if you asked nicely, they would appear.

B-b-but I don't want them to appear! [cries and clings to your sleeves]

Why do you even have these sort of scary festivals, ve?! [tears]

[ why are you so close to me... ]

They are a chance for family reunions.

Eh? Family reunions? H-how?

...ooh! Is it because it's so dark out that they can't find their way, so you put out all these lanterns for them? Ve, that's thoughtful.

...even though I don't get it.

I suppose it can work that way. It is more of an opportunity to gather your family to honor those in the aforementioned-family who have already departed from our world.

...those who have departed... huh.

[looks at all the pretty lanterns, thoughtfully]

Ve, Japan. How does it work? What do I do? Can you teach me?

I am glad you are taking an interest in this, Italy-kun.

[ has an unlit lantern for him ] At the end of the festival, you will light this and float it down a river. That way, your ancestor will not get lost.

Mm... Japan hardly opens up, so it's nice when you share your customs like this, ve.

[takes lantern]

Does it only have to be for ancestors, or can it be for other people, too?

niholoid August 5 2009, 05:35:42 UTC
I do not see why it cannot be for others... Who did you have in mind?

Reply

niholoid August 5 2009, 05:37:38 UTC
[shakes head and smiles] Mm.

So I can have two, Japan? And can I light them up now?

Reply

niholoid August 5 2009, 05:39:23 UTC
Ah, of course.. [ holds up another one ] Please feel free to light them.
