Don't get me wrong, the more the merrier! I really enjoyed reading this - it was nostalgic seeing England with yet another little colony, and it was really cute to see their relationship progress c: Pork buns really are quite delicious. I'm not the requester, but I thought I'd drop a line anyways since you put so much effort into this, and say that I have to say that this was a thoroughly informative yet endearing fic. Nice work!
I'm not the requester but, just like the other commenteer, I decided to leave a comment because I enjoyed this a lot and you worked so hard in it.
You did a great job at describing Hong Kong's conflicting feelings towards England and China. I especially love your China - fans tend to make him excessively sentimental and meek, but you made him rough and dry without stripping him of vulnerability, which is how I believe such an ancient nation should be.
This is going to my memories. Congratulations on a job really, really well done!
Yeah, I get a little annoyed at all the fic that show China as a wimpy pushover during the Opium Wars. I personally think it was his naive belief that he was still the most powerful nation in the world that was the downfall. At the same time I won't deny that the Europeans shamelessly bullied him when they realized just how ineffective he had become. Still...China's been around for so long, he can handle it and maintain SOME dignity.
At the same time, I also don't really like fics that show Hong Kong as constantly pining for China after going under British rule. Historically, the HK Chinese do affiliate themselves with China, but China never cared for that tiny island down South until this entire debacle. So I wouldn't think that they actually had a close relationship before the 1800s. Angry feelings, sure. Tears, no.
