Title: "Radio 039: Ask Italy - Ep.1 - Part 4"
Author: J.J.
Warning: I might have failed in portraying correctly the regions involved. If that's the case just tell me. Those were done out of love for the Italian regions, not with the intent to offend someone.
Notes: Recently I really need to draw which is why this long strip managed to have birth... It's nowhere near to the APH standards but well, I'm not Himaruya-san...
Characters: Italy Veneziano (Feliciano Vargas) & Italy Romano (Lovino Vargas) with the intrusion, idrance, help of Seborga (?), Campania (Antonio Vargas), Lombardia (Alberto Vargas), Veneto (Mario Vargas), Emilia (Gino Vargas), Sicilia (Rosalia Vargas), Lazio (Lucio Vargas), Alto Adige (Carolina Vargas), Mafia (Salvatore Martura), Toscana (Dante Vargas), Calabria (Tommaso Vargas)
Time: 2012.
Disclaimer: "Axis Powers Hetalia" belongs to Himaruya Hidekaz.
Hey, do I own something here? Oh yes, I own the plot and a sensible heart which would surely break if you give me harsh reviews... so please be honest but nice ok? Oh and the representation of the Italian regions are mine as well
Summary: The Italies handle a radio program in which they answers to questions about themselves...

Listen the song (the lyrics are after the video) and read the notes about this episode otherwise you've reached THE END

Italiani (Italians) (2011) by Edoardo Bennato

They say about us: improvisers. Mafiosi, rowdy, saints and sailors.
It's true, always Guelphs and Ghibellines, Terroni and Padani*
But fortunately, Italians

They say about us: revolutionaries. Pizza makers, migrants and canzonetta makers**
It's true, we're all a bit scoundrels and a bit genius
But fortunately, Italians

And so when we're partying let's wave flags
Or all red or all green or other colors
We, damnately Piemontesi and Napoletani!***
But simply, Italians

They say about us: slaves to the soccer ball. Exaggerated fans and, when at the bar, all coaches
It's true libertarian-libertine and sometimes puritans
But fortunately, Italians

And so when we're partying let's wave flags
Or all red or all green or other colors
We, damnately Piemontesi and Napoletani!
But simply, Italians

We fortunately, Italians

* Terroni is generally used with the meaning of 'southers', but usually is used in a dispregiative way. Padani means 'people living in the Padan plain', which is in the north but doesn't cover the whole north, actually a good part of the north is covered by various hills, the Prealps, the Alps, the Venetian Plain and, for a tiny bit, by the Appennine. As far as I know it wasn't used as an insult, however, recently, thanks to the fact that the Lega Lombarda party tried to name the whole of North Italy Padania, southerns might use it in a dispregiative way. Note that for northerns it's merely a name for people living there and that being Padani doesn't automatically mean voting for the Lega Lombarda so they aren't one and the same.
I've heard that out of Italy some use it to identify 'North Italy'. Well, it's an improper use of the term. If you're searching for an Italian word to use for north Italy to oppose to 'Mezzogiorno' or 'Meridione' that are used for south Italy try with 'Settentrione' or 'Alta Italia' or 'Norditalia' (used as a single word).

** A canzonetta was a popular Italian secular vocal composition which originated around 1560. However Edoardo Bennato (the author of this song) used this same word to refer to his songs as to mean not to take them too seriously, as some sort of message from above.

*** Piemontesi means 'people from Piedmont'. However in 1861, when Italian unity was reached, nearly everyone who wasn't from the ex-Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was labelled as such. As of now it doesn't happen anymore. Napoletani means 'people from Naples' however, it was also how the people from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was called, though Sicilians usually were called simply Siciliani and not Napoletani (in the past the kingdom of Sicily and the kingdom of Naples were two different kingdoms and only later were united again). Calling the people from south Italy 'Napoletani' lasted for a while even after Italian unity then people stopped it and, as of now, it's just for people from Naples or Campania in general.

Notes:

The 'ciao' thing is a recurring fact in APH fanfics that try to use Italian when dealing with the Italies. The first time I read of one of them picking up the phone and saying 'ciao?' I had an 'uh?' moment as I didn't connect it with the English/American custom to say 'hello?' and couldn't get why he was saying that as 'ciao' isn't used like that.

And so 'Radio 039: Ask Italy - Ep.1' is finished. I hope you had fun. To be honest I started drawing a second episode (I've fun drawing this sort of things... yes, I know I'm weird...) but I've no idea if I'll manage to finish it.

For who wants to prove Romano wrong and take part to the quiz here there's the list of the 20 Italian regions:
