summer reading continues

Aug 09, 2011 20:22

Mid-July, I started working as an office temp again. As I spend most of my day doing menial computer tasks, I am allowed to listen to my ipod at work (read: listen to audiobooks). It is likely to be a very productive summer/beginning to fall unless I run out of free audiobooks to download.

Here's what I've listened to so far these past 3 weeks and 2 ( Read more... )

I love library book sales. Half the time I just end up buying nicer looking copies of books I already own. And high five on Candide and Amy Hempel.

That's generally what I do too, so this time I told myself I would only buy books I didn't already own. I was looking for the Amy Hempel and asked a group of people if they had seen it - one of the workers says, "I JUST SAW THAT" and rushes off. Then she comes back with it 5 minutes later and it was very nice of her (and lucky for me!)

I think this is the most I ever bought. I had a friend with me who kept recommending different books to me, so that made it easier to grab a bunch, though my bad wrist still hasn't forgiven me for getting so many (and carrying them around for 2 hours haha).

I saw people with luggage bags. I also had a backpack, but I filled it with the heavier books and thought a box would be easier for paying.

Did you like Neverwhere? That's my favorite of Neil Gaiman's. (I also liked Stardust and Coraline but most of his other work fell flat IMO.)

That John Gardner book is a classic.

I did really enjoy "Neverwhere," though it took me a while to get into it. It's the first I've read of his. I also downloaded American Gods, which a friend of mine just finished and loved.

I was looking for Gardner's "On Becoming on Novelist," but was happy to find "The Art of Fiction." My quest for the other continues!
