I don't think I am built for an all-inclusive resort experience either. It might be novel for the first day, but I prefer to be out and about versus lying in a chair getting burnt and laden with calories.

Your trip went so quickly! I hope you had as wonderful a time as it appeared. :)

It did go very quickly. When we got on the plane, it felt almost like we had just gotten there. And since I've been home, it's felt like I've never left! But it was a fun trip and I hope to be able to repeat it again sometime in my life. They do have nice programs (with discounts) for families, so I'd see myself going back once I get married/have kids old enough.

Americans really are getting huge. I saw a site a while back of found pictures rolls people had developed, like a camera they bought at a garage sale or thrift store. Most of the pictures were old and it was amazing how back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s how much smaller people were. Yeah, there were a few bigger ones but people by and large were thin. You get so used to what people look like now that it's not striking until you're out of that context, like old pictures or another country.

I get you on the resort thing. I'm okay with a day or two of lounging around type vacation. But some friends just went to Cancun for a week where they stayed at this all-inclusive place. I'm not sure if they even ventured outside the resort. Not my scene.

I think most people just don't do enough physical activity, and I"m not talking about working out. Our culture is getting more and more sedentary, more and more technology-based. I was talking to my mom about this and she remembers when McDonald's first opened - how fast food used to be a novelty, not an everyday meal as a lot of people see it now. Seeing all of those people lying around like beached whales just made me think of gluttony. And it was gross to see.

I feel like if I were ever to go somewhere all inclusive where I didn't have to leave the resort, what's the point of even going to another country? A passport stamp? A front desk clerk greeting you with "Buenos dias" ? Might as well just stay in the US. What those people were doing can't even be considered tourism, so I don't understand why they bothered leaving the country at all.

Yeah, I'm not built for the resort experience either. Don't get me wrong, I love staying someplace fancy that has an amazing bed and bathtub when I actually have the money, but I can't sit by the pool or on the beach all day. I much prefer wandering around, seeing new things and meeting new people. And ugh, people like that give Americans a bad name. It is so embarrassing to be in a foreign country and having one of your fellow Americans being loud/drunk/obnoxious/ignorant.

I loved looking at your previous posts and the pictures you posted! I actually wandered over here to re-read "The Best Armor" but I got sucked into your posts about Costa Rica! I have severe wanderlust and so I like to live vicariously through others while I wait for my next vacation.

The resort rooms were nicer than anywhere else I stayed in Costa Rica, but I don't go on vacation to sit in a hotel room. I like to explore and there's only so much you can do in a resort or resort town.

I'm glad you enjoyed my posts! I love seeing pictures and reading about new places. Traveling Latin America is something I hope to do all my life. If you would like to be more distracted by wanderlust, I have an entire blog devoted to my semester abroad in Chile: heatherinchile. Haha.

Now that I'm back, I really should finish my last chapter of The Best Armor! I have a lot of notes, but it just isn't complete. I'll get back on that. All of the chapters are posted at the BarneyRobin community and on ffnet. On the left sidebar, I have a link t my fanfiction masterlist, if you haven't found it yet. ;)

Thanks for stopping by!
