Realistic Salary Expectations

According to Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox for May 8,
the average salary for a usability specialist in the US with 5 years experience is 80'000 USD
. That sounds like a lot to me. Can somebody in the web field in the US give me a reality check on that?

Sounds about right to me. The last time I was hiring folks into that position was 3 or 4 years ago. Also, I'm not sure what a "specialist" is. We would expect our usability experts to code as well as write requirements and design specs.
