I like Character A/OC if it adds depth to the A/B pairing that I'm reading for. I like to see their life together, especially if it sets the scene and shows where Character A is in his/her life before B comes into the picture (physically or metaphorically). I think A/OC interaction is good if it serves its purpose, like to show how the OC is different/similar to B, how their relationship is dissatisfying compared to A/B, what A wants out of life, etc. If you're writing an A/B pairing fic, I think it's good to have just enough A/OC stuff to get to the A/B resolution. As long as the focus is on Character A and not the OC, then I think it's usually fine

Not a rambling mess at all. I appreciate your taking the time to comment. I've worked with OC's before, but never to the level I'm planning to in this fic I've been working on lately.
And it got me wondering if maybe I was stressing too much in flushing out the details of A/OC.
