What the hell do they put in chocolate?

It wasn't the first time today that Matt had wondered that. Mello went about things in a way that was almost unnatural to him, head-first and non-stop. Problems with the plumbing? Figure out what's wrong. Once you do that? Go get whatever you need to fix it. And after you do that? Fix it.

Fucking exhausting.

Of course, the argument that Matt was simply out of shape could also be made. He was not, and had never been, the active sort of guy.

He set the stuff down, crouching there to catch his breath as he started unloading.

"Leave it up to this place to turn plumbing into an extreme sport." He looked up at the blond, smirking softly. "Shoulda tried this back home. More dangerous than serial killers."

It was more what did the mob do to Mello. Or maybe it wasn't the mob, Mello had always been dramatic. That, like most things about his personality, had intensified as he got older. He probably would have threatened to put a bullet in whoever called him a "drama queen" but that just proved the point.

Mello watched Matt pant for a moment before rolling his eyes, "you've got the lung capacity of a three year old, you know that? You've probably got more tar coating your lungs than there in an entire godamned city-block." But it wasn't as if Mello was reprimanding him. It was just an honest observation.

A chuckle, "yeah, but minus the whole bettering the world thing. Besides I doubt it would be as dangerous without all the fucking ghosts." Mello was circling the boiler, surveying the damage again.

"I'll live."

Maybe the wrong choice of words, all things considered. Matt paused just long enough to draw the pack from his pocket and light up. He breathed easier when it was filled with carcinogens. Go figure.

"Alright, let me replace the parts." Matt stood up again, ready to get to work. This really wasn't his area of expertise, but he was good enough with his hands when it came to more sophisticated technology. He should be able to figure out a water heater.

In theory.

"Keep an eye out for guests. And say a prayer or two that we didn't go through all that for nothing."

"Right," Mello said, pretending he wasn't effected by Matt's comment. Here, Mello reminded himself, he would. "So we should start by figuring out how to relieve the pressure since that's what seems to be the biggest problem. Once we get that fixed it's just a matter of replacing parts."

He looked over at the collection on the ground. "Some of those are for making explosives later," he reminded Matt, toeing aside some pipe and brass caps.
