See, they want it to be one or the other of those things. It's neither, so they don't know what to do with it because they can't put it in a box. If it was either titillating erotica or a bold affirmation, it'd sound fake to you and me, no?

(It's quite clear in the book that she's not "happy" doing porn -- she finds it uncomfortable, boring, and baffling.)
