i still barely understand time signatures period. terribly excited to take a music theory class in fall.
when i got my wisdom teeth out there was no one to stay with me immediately afterward so mom left me with two timers to wake me up every 20 minutes to switch sides with the ice pack, and every hour to take more pills. so i passed out and when the first alarm went off i was startled and flustered and still delirious, so i took more vicodin and made myself sick. it was awesome.
lol Yes, they sure are glamourous times. I never understood why people took pain-killers recreationally before, but I see now how they could become habit-forming. Music theory is hard, but definately worth your while. Are you taking it for a specific instrument, or just as straight theory?

Tool seems to be pretty keen on unusual/shifting time signatures. Although I dun recommend them, I think Mudvayne (spelled with a y? I have no idea- might as well throw some x's in there, too) does some pretty unorthodox shifts in their "songs."

Isn't mud vein what you call the part of a lobster you're not supposed to eat? the excrement? Yeah, I guess Tool songs have a lumbering sort of rythm to them that is not typical of standard rock beats. Or rather of the 4-4 that nearly everything is in lately. Odd-numbered counts (except for waltz) make me think of a wheel with something stuck to it... or when you roll over a tree in katamari damaci.
