I indeed missed your posts. :) Did you read Heidi in German?

Haha, no. My German is not so good (at least, not anymore) that I can read a whole story in German if I am not already familiar with it. I can read HP in German because my knowledge of the story helps fill in the places where my vocabulary fails me. It really was lovely to transport myself again back to the Alpine area - so pretty.

Du hast bald ein Geburtstag, ja? Hast Du etwas vor? :)

Ja, habe ich tatsächlich! :)
I am invited to a very good friend's wedding. Both, groom and bride, are actually very good friends of mine! :) and I will be the female equivalent of Best Man (Trauzeugin):maid of honor or (female) witness of marriage ceremony? how do you call it?
So, a very special way of 'celebrating' my birthday!!! :)
I am really looking forward to it!

Maid of honour (or matron of honour if you are already married). :) Sounds like fun!

I just met that EasyScan checkout machine, myself! ^_^ (I'm in charge of the Scholastic fair at my kids' school this year, eep.) I actually sort of love it, though--we used to have to figure sales tax with a calculator, keep written records of purchases, and put together our own financial reports. And now the cute little machine--okay, not so little, and not so much cute--does it all for us! Of course, our book fair isn't till next week, and I have yet to try to train my volunteer cashiers to use it. I may hate the thing with a passion by this time next week!

Always nice to see you posting, by the way. ^_^

We never charged sales tax, so I was usually able to tally people's purchases up in my head: just round up to the nearest dollar, add up the amounts, and subtract 1 cent per item = $15.97 (or whatever). I feel like this machine will be prone to too much human error, and that backtracking over those mistakes, or dealing with barcodes that don't want to go through, etc, will take for. ev. er. I'd love to hear what you think about it after your fair! Ours isn't until the week of Thanksgiving, so plenty of advanced warning/advice would be great. :)
