I know what you mean by having the teacher have you mix colours on the canvas - there are a few teachers in our area that do the same thing - one teacher calls it "a la prima" painting - I have mixed success with it as well. Mostly I tend to give up and mix my colours on my palette anyway :D
One thing that I have been very happy with, in painting at home - is that I am using a glass plate - a smallish microwave turntable that I bought at a thrift store - for my palette. I find that I don't "lose" hardly any paint - unlike using a paper plate. So the teacher's argument about "painting the palette" no longer holds true for me :D
I think your surf at the edge of the water looks really good - I am impressed that the teacher went through all the little highlights and shadows parts - I'm finding that a lot of the time, the teachers don't do that - when I think it really finishes things off nicely.
I have a code for a "free" class Soooo...I have determined that the codes a) never expire and b) are not

I had been assuming I'd be able to still go visit my dad by late spring/early summer, and that MiniPlu might still be able to have a late, rescheduled prom and/or graduation by, say, July. But now that's sounding more and more like none of that might be possible after all. I hear colleges are considering whether their fall terms might need to remain virtual and not start on-campus stuff until January. The idea that MiniPlu might not get to "go" to college this fall is just unbearable

Unbearable is a really good word for it - and unfair - she's done All the Things - and to then rip it away at the end?
Is your boss threatening not to let anyone take vacation time this year? No, not at all. His comment was part of us discussing the "reopening" - his feeling is that since people aren't scheduling summer vacations - restart schools and let them continue into the summer months

I had a thought tonight - have you thought about getting applications in to local colleges/universities for MiniPlu as a backup plan, in case she isn't able to go to live in the dorms?
I know I've talked to some people, who are thinking that it's not really worth the tuition if you are having to do your classes online instead of in person - so I wonder if there will be a rush to enroll kids in the local colleges to get a cheaper "first year" and be able to transfer to the universities in 2021?
I'm not sure what the cost of applying is, but it might be worth doing to have a spot in case it's needed?
It's been a fun diversion and distraction while everything else is going sideways. I've never done painting before now, so it's neat to learn a new skill.

Food stores are still okay here, not sure what would happen if this lasted 2 years, though. 2 years??? I don't even want to think about that.
