It's been a week (and not just for me)

MiniPlu has her new retainers after a (thankfully) smooth return trip to PA on Tuesday. She hates how her teeth feel now that they've moved, though, and is wondering if she made the right choice NOT to have braces again. There was just no winning in this situation, sigh

It's difficult when your child has certain expectations and hasn't come to terms with the idea that you may also have your own life. On the other hand, it's not a bad lesson to learn the importance of give and take within a family.

I sympathise with you regarding your BIL.

It's flattering, I suppose, that I have such value to my children, that they want me around all the time and hate it when I'm gone. But it's also frustrating, to not be able to feel like I *can* go off without these massive guilt trips.

I confess I may have, in a fit of pique, told my son "Too bad for you" when he complained about my going. *wry face* Probably not my finest parenting moment.

We've all done similar! And it's only on 'perfect parenting courses' that the right response is used every time.
