Aaaand three weeks later I'm finally answering this. :-P
We have moved in with my BIL/SIL (my husband's twin/wife) - it's a permanent arrangement, so we are not buying a new property. We will, however, be using some of the money from the sale of our house to improve this house. The yard needs to be fenced for our dogs, we need to build a small porch in the front to protect the front door from weather, update the heating zoning upstairs, things like that. So, we are sort of "buying into" the house that way.
We've sold four houses and never met the buyers. Not sure I'd really want to, but it's a fascinating option. It would be kind of nice to be able to explain some oddity or point out that what looks like a dead weed will turn into this gorgeous plant in a few months.
Interesting. You just signed papers on your own, then handed them off to some person who took them to the buyers? We weren't sure how it was going to work this time; when we bought the house, it was a "For sale by owner" and we didn't have a real estate agent, so it was entirely face-to-face. We just asked our lawyer to handle the actual paperwork.
I was glad to meet the buyers, though, although if they'd been jerks, perhaps I wouldn't have been. :-P
