1) MiniPlu's Confirmation was on Thurs.
2) I subbed at the middle school for an absolutely crazy, do-nothing sort of day on Fri
3) Got stuff done, but not enough - never enough - while in NJ this past weekend.
4) Today is going by much too quickly; I still have so much to do, wah!
5) Reading Robin McKinley's Chalice right now, really like it a lot ( Read more... )

Congratulations to MiniPlu on her Confirmation! (Mazel Tov! ;)

But, on *principle*, I was really ticked off at the rude families who made life difficult for those behind them, with absolutely no thought for anyone but themselves. This has really become endemic at all kinds of kid functions -- graduations and what-not -- from what I've seen. People just stick their iPads over their heads or selfie sticks or whatever. They can't possibly not realize how much they're blocking the view for others, so it must be that they just don't care ( ... )

Fixed. Gah - and I double-checked, too!

Up until now, my favorite Robin McKinley has been her retelling of Robin Hood (The Outlaws of Sherwood), but, yeah, I'm really loving Chalice so far.

And I will pass along your congrats to MiniPlu. (Belated happy Passover, btw - I haven't gotten to your post about it yet, but I thought of you guys!)

I never went through Confirmation. Norman, our bishop, (all these years later, I can still hear Father Baldwin's particular intonation) only came to our parish in May for seniors in high school. I'd graduated midterm that year and had that weekend booked for something or other well before the date was announced. So, I'm still a child in the eyes of the Church.

Wow, you graduated high school early? That's kind of cool. From what you've said about your current faith status, it doesn't sound like you regret not being officially Confirmed, at least not at this point in your life. Is this a correct assumption?

My faith is constant; my religion, not so much. During the last thirty or so years, I've been religious, not religious, doubting, fascinated, uninterested, and antagonistic. Pope Francis is the first pope in an age who has tempted me to return. Right now, my church is the earth and sky. I don't need any name to fix upon as God. I see the works when I stop and look around me and feel the blessings there.

Gad, what a sap.

Frankly, I think you've got a great relationship with your spiritual side, and admire you for it.
