Good news: Nala is doing much better. In fact, as of today I'd say she's just about normal again. Somewhat arthritic, but not to any sort of crippling degree. We had her at the dog park today, and she even trotted at times, tail perked up, cheerfully sniffing everything. Phew!
Jade, on the other hand, had a rough day. (
Yip yip yip yip! )

The first time I took Rue to the dog park, I was just terrified - not of what other dogs might do, but because she's a little mouthy sometimes when we're out on the leash and she sees another dog. Not always, but sometimes. And so I was AT THE READY with the cheese treats and leash in case she was snotty and scared someone. Luckily, all was well and I have relaxed considerably since then. I'm glad Jade is ok, and it sounds like you handled the whole thing really well. The other owner sounds like they were on track too. The number one best thing I've learned since becoming a dog mom is that "dogs will be dogs," and a lot of what seemed scary to me when I first saw it was just the pack tussling around to see who's where on the pecking order. But oh my god, I was so neurotic in the beginning, hahahahaha!
So, what kind of dogs are Jade and Nala? Nala looks like a collie or a collie-ish mutt?

Jade is supposedly Australian Shepherd mix, with black-tri coloring (although mostly the black/brown, not as much white). She has more of the build for an Aussie, but she doesn't have an undercoat, and her fur is shorter overall, except along the back of her shoulders. She does have a nice fan on her tail, and a bit around her face and legs, though. Absolutely NO idea what she might be mixed with. The icon in the original post is Jade. The icon in this comment is Nala. :)
