Is it possible to get a mild concussion after being hit in the head by a basketball (thrown by an uncoordinated 11-year-old)? ( Why I'm asking )

How about if you wait until tomorrow and if he's still acting weird, take Two to the doctor. I've been hit dead in the face by a basketball, also by an ice ball that made my nose bleed hard, and I'm pretty sure neither resulted in a concussion. YMMV of course. If he wakes up barfing it might be worth an ER visit...

And how is he this morning? You know I'm waiting to find out. :D

So far seems ok. Says his head still hurts a bit, but it's too early in the morning to evaluate for full alertness/hunger/etc. He's not significantly different at this point, at least, and he slept ok.

I had a concussion when I was a bit younger than Two, and even for a fairly mild one it was pretty dramatic - my memory was wiped out for about ten minutes after the accident, among other things - so I would say if it's been a few hours and there aren't any symptoms like vomiting or blacking out, it's probably OK. When TC's had head injuries, I've usually woken her a couple of times that night to check for responsiveness, so maybe try that just for your peace of mind?

Happy birthday to your dad, and I'm sorry to hear about your coworker. :( I've had that same thought every time someone I've known has died - the finality of it is just so complete and awful.

He slept ok and seemed fine this morning, so ... whatever was his issue last night, it seems to have blown over. Thanks for your input!

I wouldn't think a concussion from a basketball is likely (seems like the ball is too big to hit hard enough for that, especially by accident), but if weird symptoms continue, worth checking out perhaps...

Sorry about the deaths among acquaintances -- it always hits me weirdly, too, especially if they are people I think of as "my age".

Happy belated birthday to your dad!

Oh, and the Technion video (B's alma mater, btw) is fantastic! It had popped up on Facebook, but I hadn't had a chance to watch it until I saw your link here. So much fun!

I thought I remembered correctly that B had a connection to Technion! :-D Hope he enjoyed the video, too. I just wish we'd seen all the plagues. ;)
