Awesome things from today

I woke up feeling just about human again!

Felt well enough to attend my belt test. Am now an orange belt. :)

We had light snow all day, enough to leave tiny fluffy balls in the trees - looked like cherry blossoms had bloomed early. Very pretty.

At church tonight, Fr. demonstrated that Amazing Grace (which had been the entrance hymn) fit ( Read more... )

It totally works. I think I like it at that pace too.

Congrats on your belt promotion. Well done!

Works with quite a few other songs too: this demo lets you mix and match tones and lyrics from not just Amazing Grace and the Gilligan's Island theme but also all of I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, House of the Rising Sun, O! Susannah, the theme from the Pokémon cartoon and I've Been Working on the Railroad. (Just about.)

Hooray for your colourful new promotion, too!

LOL - I definitely think O Little Town of Bethlehem would improve to set it to that tune. Takes too darn long, otherwise! Clearly, there are quite a number of songs set to the same rhythm and overall pattern. Thanks for pointing that out!

And thanks. :)

Congratulations on both belt and health! What is the belt color progression?

Thank you! At this dojong it's: white, yellow, orange (the beginner belts); green, blue, purple (the intermediate belts); brown, red, red-with-black-tip, cho dan bo (which is red with a black stripe running down the full length of the belt) and, finally, black.

So, ten belts total before black and I'm now up to the third one. I initially had hopes of squeezing in one more test before I have to take a lengthy hiatus for my shoulder, but it took a few extra weeks for this test to happen. Since it's usually a good 3 months between tests for beginning/intermediate belts, it doesn't look like I'll get to green until after my recovery.
