Will met with his hernia surgeon today to ensure All Systems Are Go and to find out when his surgery will be on Tues. ( The answer is: 'morning'. Gee, thanks. )

Wow, fifth and sixth graders talking about going to a dance with a boy like a date? Huh. L's friends last year were pretty much still all in the "ew, boys" stage, and I don't see any difference this year so far. That said, L has already started making noises about going to school dances (which, if it hasn't changed from my or my brother's time in the school, mostly involves going with a bunch of friends.)

Is there any possibility of changing MiniPlu's private lessons to a different day now that the school lessons/band are on the same day? It does seem like it would make more sense to space those out...

(Speaking of music lessons, music starts in 4th grade in our school (too?). L decided to sit it out, but O announced he wants to learn violin (as opposed to flute, trumpet, or clarinet). Mostly because his best friend is planning n doing the same, I'm sure, though he claimed he actually wanted to learn, too. O also said he decided on violin because it sounds better when you practice. LOL, optimism! XP)

Nope, MiniPlu and a lot of her 4th-grade friends were already past the "ew boys" stage unless they were pestering the girls, in which case, yeah. But I remember starting to get crushes on boys around that age, too, so it's not entirely surprising. I *am* surprised at how early girls start talking about dating, though, given that, crushes or no, I wasn't really interested in that until ... uh ... high school?

Of course, when I've asked MiniPlu to describe her ideal date, what she really means is "a playdate/hangout session but with the bonus title of being a girlfriend, and maybe a little hand-holding". So, yeah, not REALLY ready for proper dating. Just the 10-year-old concept of one. :P

The private-lessons teacher only gives lessons on Tues and Wed; Wed is out because that's when I teach CCD, so ... Tues it is.

So, are you going to let O start violin? LOL at the idea that it sounds better when you practice (especially at the beginning)! Wasn't he playing a little piano or guitar or something at some point already ( ... )

L went through a crush/interest in boyfriend stage in second grade, but sometime during third it turned back into "ew boys!". None of her friends seem interested in dating either (and L's interest in school dances seems to be mainly because she would like to dress up).

"a playdate/hangout session but with the bonus title of being a girlfriend, and maybe a little hand-holding". That's cute! :) (I think L was doing the hand-holding ting occasionally with her second grade 'boyfriend ( ... )

I remember sixth graders "going together," so the date thing doesn't surprise me...in fact, I'm pretty sure LVN had a date in grade 6 or 7 with a girl who then abandoned him at the event.

WRT surgery: every time LVN has had some kind of procedure, they've only given us a ballpark time like that. However, children go first, and emergencies also go first, so Will is low on the priority list. Bring things to read. Last time LVN had sinus surgery, he was supposed to go first but got pushed back because a younger child got priority. Not that it was a huge big deal, since I had to take the whole day off anyway.

Poor LVN. :( That stinks. On the other hand, it sounds like he got over it. (How're things with the new gf? She getting him to do his homework?)

Did LVN have his sinus surgery at a hospital? I get the impression that Will's not going to be at a hospital, but at an outpatient surgical center, so ... maybe he'd be less likely to be bumped by emergencies? I did hear that a friend who had a hernia repaired over the summer did get bumped back until afternoon, but I don't know where his surgery took place. I'd hate to have to leave Will prematurely in order to pick up the girls from school, but at least his dad/twin/wife will still be there.

LVN's surgery was in a surgery center, which is actually part of a bigger building with the ENT office (and many other offices, and x-ray and stuff for our HMO's clinics). It's an uncomplicated procedure so they just do it right there, which is cool ( ... )

Think it'll motivate him sufficiently? (Maybe you should tell his gf, too - then she'll make SURE he doesn't fail anything, since I imagine she'd be royally ticked if he couldn't take her.)
