I'm glad you've been able to find out what was causing M's allergy - I can empathise, although I think hers sounded much worse :( Poor boo! Please give her a hug for me.
The dress looks lovely! I still think it's ridiculous she can't wear pants and a shirt, though.
I liked your little drabble, but I haven't seen Sherlock S2 yet :D
Eh, the dress, being so plain, isn't really what I'd call "lovely" but it's what Two wanted (in lieu of what she REALLY wanted) but it's a pretty satin and I know she'll look nice in it. MiniPlu was expressing doubt that it would pass muster, dress-code-wise, and I said, "It'd better. It's white, and it's a dress - which is all they demanded." (I know there won't be a problem. This is MiniPlu worrying again.)
And thank you! Hope you get to see S2 soon. We had to download it, as it won't be airing in the U.S. until May, I think.
Oh heck, I already forgot about her taking amoxicillin or I would have mentioned that! Duh!
LVN has a similar allergy to an antibiotic called Omnicef, which we discovered one night when he was still on it and woke up in pain from hives and swelling and I had to go out in a snow storm to buy benadryl but the Scholar was out of town. (Have never allowed benadryl to run out again, ever.)
The z-pack doesn't work for LVN 100% either. But there are other antibiotics to try if this ever comes back again.
FWIW the steroids should work overnight, but if not, an Aveeno bath might be helpful.
You had no way of knowing she might be allergic to it!
Yeah, I was freaking out on Friday night when Two's hives started affecting her eyelids, because I knew we were low on Benedryl. Will assured me we had enough to dose her before bedtime, then he ran across the street to the 24-hour grocery store after the kids were in bed to make sure we had enough for overnight!
We plunked her into an Aveeno bath Saturday morning before finally taking her to the urgent care center - she claimed it didn't help, but I don't know if that was true, she was just ornery, or if she was just so itchy, it didn't help enough for her to appreciate the difference.
The hives are mostly gone now, and her itchiness is much less. They did say it might not go away instantly, which it hasn't, but the steroids are clearly making a HUGE difference, so - phew!
oh, boy. A good advice: tell every doctor EVERY time they prescribe antibiotics that Two is allergic to penicillins. I have made the experience that they tend to not pay enough attention to this fact even though they have it as a note in their patient charts. I got prescribed penicillins a couple of times, even though they knew (or should have known) that I was seriously allergic to it. And, ask your doctor, whether you should also tell them that cephalosporins might not be a good idea, either, as they are so similar in chemical structure that often a person is allergic to both kinds of antibiotics after they have developed an allergy against penicillins. There are inconsistent results in studies about this cross-reactivity between penicillins and cephalosporins, but maybe it would be better to be safe rather than sorry? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15943598
I didn't understand every word of that (though I did appreciate having both articles) - thanks for pointing out the risk; I wouldn't have thought to bring it up, otherwise. I wonder what percentage of people are allergic to penicillins? My mother is, too.
maybe this is a better article.... sorry in case this is more than you would like to know. :) It is just that I am immersed in this stuff now, as my thesis deals with it. ;D So, this kind of literature is my "reading diet" now for quite a few months.... :)
Glad you figured out the allergy, though eep! about having to go to urgent care for it. Hope the itchiness subsides now that she's taking the steroids. Poor thing! :(
Congrats on finishing the Communion dress -- it looks lovely!
