Memo to my darling elder daughter: repeatedly screaming your head off in your room, and then trying to convince me you need help because you had momentary "difficulty breathing", does not work. Oh, I loved McCullough's John Adams biography. I thought it was excellently written and very engaging.

That's how the beginning definitely seems. Hopefully I can find time to continue to read it, soon. Do you know how many pages were in the paper version? (The Kindle only gives me percentages of completion.)

WorldCat says 751 pages. I guess it's a testament to its readability that I don't remember it being that long.

Yeah, this parade is always really early, but it did feel even earlier than usual because of when "the first Sat in Oct" fell this year. TKD was competing as a group/school/organization. Our school has chosen not to participate in the local (not this weekend's) parade for the past few years as coordinating it is tough, finding a workable theme is tougher (and preparing for it time-hungry), and making sure everyone can provide transportation is even worse. No one really seems to miss it much ( ... )

There will definitely be more books after ToS. Last I heard, Novik had said that 9 books were planned. The next one, Crucible of Gold, is due out in March 2012, I believe.

was actually kind of surprised how vehemently Lawrence felt about traveling with Tharkay, or rather surprised by Lawrence's surprise that Tharkay would WANT to travel with him.

You mean to Australia? I think the surprise was less about thinking they parted on a bad note and more that going to Australia is a huge undertaking and takes forever, so it's not something you would normally do even for a good friend. The reaction of the Laurence/Tharkay shippers was, of course, predictable (and there followed some fics set during the voyage :), but there's some additional info provided in ToS.
