I had to have that one pointed out to me, but I have to say that it's the only bit of Torchwood continuity that... I would describe as continuity. Which leads me to believe that it was an accident and they just put him in the same suit for the whole episode, not remembering that it was over two days.

Haha, as a film student, the complete and utter lack of continuity in Torchwood should bother me far more than it does, I think xP (I try to overlook it and just enjoy the show for what it is...)

And the only reason I think that it may have been planned (or else somebody just forgot about Ianto) is that everybody, even Jack (who, we all know, only has a handful of outfits) was wearing different clothes, and he was the only one who wasn't.

Haha, I only noticed it looking at screencaps (and I think his tie is different the second day, but everything else looks the same...)

I always assumed that since they were paralleling Tosh/Tommy and Jack/Ianto in that part, when Tosh and Tommy are in bed after the fact Jack and Ianto are doing the same thing (only we don't get to see it...)
