Magic: The Gathering

Tonight's game of Magic

Warning: This is a total geek post, heh.

Life has been horribly suck-tacular lately, and so I've been occupying my heart and mind with distractions. For a long time, I've neglected what used to be a long list of interests, so now I'm slowly going back to my hobbies and discovering new ones to boot. One of those fresh things is Magic: The Gathering.

I don't know why, but I never got into this in high school or college even if it was already pretty big back then. I had girl friends who played, but they got into it because of their boyfriends so I didn't pay much attention. Well it's never too late isn't it? For now, I will skip over how I got into it, but I only learned how to play recently. I only aim to be a casual gamer because this particular hobby requires money that I would rather spend on clothes, gadgets and savings, but I've put out some cash to get myself some intro decks. They're pretty weak decks, considering they're starter packs, but I figured I can just make them stronger in the long run. Besides, I like the intro decks. They come in these little beginner kits that are fun to keep.

I got my first deck around two weeks ago - the Flyover WorldWake Intro Pack - plus a couple of 20-sided dice because I suck at keeping track of numbers. It's a blue and white deck that has a cute Pegasus in it (the super serious Magic players, and, well, guys, will scoff at that statement I'm sure haha).

The pack contains a 41-card deck including 1 premium foil card, a 15-card booster pack, a beginner's guide and a strategy guide.

Somebody also gave me a Jund deck - a customized red, green and black deck with cool dragons and fireballs. It's a pretty strong deck - it's got some fight in it. Decks like that are pretty pricey, so I'm a lucky girl to be given one, heh.

So I started playing, and today I got to visit the Titan Hobby Shop - a Magic store here in the neighborhood. The Philippine Magic Team actually plays there. What, you ask, there's actually a Philippine Team for it? Apparently, there is haha. Anyway, what do you know, I got another intro pack there haha. This time around, I got the one I really wanted - the Fangs of the Blood Chief WorldWake Intro Pack - because it means vampires! It's an all black deck that's strong on its own already. This particular intro pack was actually double the price of other intro packs, but I found it at the regular intro pack price at the store so I had to get it.

It was worth it. The cards had pretty cool moves and I enjoyed playing with it earlier. (A vampire deck by the way, is also made fun of by some players by calling it the Twilight deck haha, which I like. Go scoff all you want!) I got some blue tokens too - again because I suck at keeping track of numbers - plus blue card sleeves. Of course everything had to be blue, duh.

I hope I don't get addicted! I don't need another expensive hobby, heh. Trying to curb the addiction now, but I don't think I'm going to stop playing anytime soon. Like I said in my tweet this evening, Magic is like an elaborate game of chess! It gets my mind going. I love it.
